“What Is That Smell??!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2012

When we walked in the front door a sewage smell hit me in the face. Apparently this is normal, as we were told later by the guy on the shuttle. Something about the river rising so on and so forth....whatever..YUCK! The place is in desperate need of a face lift. The staff didn't impress, and didn't seem to care. The room just looked tired and was a bit musty. The balcony was tiny and though I made reservations well in advance, we were stuck off down in no mans land at the end of the building. We were in town for 3 nights but moved to a MUCH better hotel the next morning.
Parking was easy, that is the only good thing I have to say.

Checked into this hotel and asked to be upgraded to a river view room with balcony -- the staff made it happen immediately! Our room was spacious and very clean, but the baloncy was our favorite spot!! We spent mornings out there with our coffee, afternoons out there reading, and evenings out there with our cocktails. We really enjoyed being so close to the enormous cargo ships that continually cruised by -- my kids loved waving at the various sailors. The staff was incredibly friendly displaying "southern hospitality" at every turn -- from the valets, to the house keeping staff, to the front desk and everyone in between! We enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the concierge each morning and snacks in the afternoon. The hotel has a ferry dock on site which is very convenient if you'd like to "sail" down to the Town Hall or over to the Westin/convention center. The hotel sits on the east side of the historic River Walk, so its only about a 5 or 10 min walk to bars, restaurants and shopping. We spent 3 days here and none of us wanted to leave -- it's that nice. Can't wait to go back!!

Room Tip: Book a river view room with a balcony!!

This was my husband and I first time in Savannah. This hotel was super nice and just like the other reviews, it is in walking distance to river street. Would definately consider staying here again. One negative the rooms do not have refrigerators...

Our room overlooked the river , had a small balcony with table and two chairs. Perfect for a glass of wine while watching the BIG ships come in and leave the harbor. When reserving a room request a riverfront room on one of the upper floors which have less street traffic noise. The hotel is within walking distance of the main hub bub of River Street . Once you get to that area, free trolleys are available that will take you from one end of River Street to the other.. Walking on the uneven brick street can be tiring at any age. Various shops and restaurants will keep shoppers and appetites satisfied. Will plan to stay at this Marriott on our return trip to Savannah.

Room Tip: Upper floor overlooking the river with a balcony.

Hotel is very clean and well kept. Definitely has a conference feel to it, which is why I was here. It's not in the historic part but it's within walking distance to river walk and the DOT fare free shuttle stop that makes a continuous loop around the historic district. Staff is super friendly. The only problem I had regarding this was during check in. I asked about the fare free shuttle and was told that there wasn't one but I could take the trolley for $26 a day. They must have a business deal with the trolley company.
The room was very clean and quite spacious. The only complaint was the indoor pool, which is located in the middle of the central atrium. I felt like that was very odd.

I’ve stayed at this hotel many times and was pleased to see how much it has changed since my last visit. The hotel has redone all the rooms as far as carpet, bedding, and decoration; however the main furniture pieces haven’t changed. The staff was very friendly as always. The hotel is located in the historic district and a perfect location if you are looking for access to both River Street and Bay Street. There is plenty of parking and you don’t have to valet park! I recommend getting a room with a view of the river so you can watch the container ships and other boats float past your room.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms with a river view are my favorite - you can skip the elevator and watch the boats...

The riverfront Marriott is a superb location, if you don't mind the little bit of walking to the river and to the downtown area. The view was outstanding and nothing compares to seeing huge ships pass right by your window at all times of the day. The rooms were in excellent condition, the only complaint was that we had a diabetic with us and requested a refridgerator for insulin. We were told that all refrigerators had been given out for the entire weekend, but they did offer to store what we needed kept cold, and it was brought to us in a timely fashion when requested. This hotel definitely has the "conference hotel" vibe but with an indoor and outdoor pool and jacuzzi, what more could you ask for? The breakfast buffett in the hotel restaurant was to die for.
