“Great location - Great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012 NEW

We loved being right down by the river. The ship watching was so much fun and it was great to just walk out of your hotel and stroll along the river with musicians and shops. While the staff was friendly, the service a just a little spotty. However, the room was very nice - great bed. This is our second time and we will come back.

Room Tip: The central staircase carried noise from the restaurants below and talking staff all the way up so g...

“The River Street Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2012 NEW

I highly recommend this historic hotel, especially for travelers who like to be in the center of the action. The inn is located on the Savannah River with shops and restaurants on the first floor and rooms above. The river is active with large ships and riverboats traveling its waters. Excellent restaurants like the Pink House and the Silver Plume are just a short walk away. You are in the Historic District and if you are interested in the historic homes and gardens, be sure to visit during garden week. All this is not to say that the hotel is noisy; it's not. For families, I also recommend the ground floor restaurants along the river; some offer excellent values, which you are not likely to find elsewhere in the historic district. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our Savannah visit and this inn. The complimentary afternoon wine and cheese in the bar was one our our most favorite activities. We enjoyed meeting other travelers, including a couple from Canada. The hotel is nicely furnished and the staff was very pleasant.
Note: We stayed here in the spring of 2010; the review form only has date options for visits within the past year.

Room Tip: You definitely want a room with a view of the river and the higher, the better.

“Wonderful !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2012 NEW

My friends and I look forward to our "Girls Trip" each year. We've stayed in B&Bs, suites, hotels and condos. The River Street Inn was our first historic hotel. We chose it because it is located in the heart of downtown. We walked everywhere! Added to the location, we were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the hotel and the size of the rooms. The wood both on the floor and around the rooms shined. It seemed that somebody was always cleaning. The staff couldn't be nicer. They made sure we had water for our walking trips around the great city as well as gave us wonderful suggestion on where to eat and what to see.

I will stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking out on the river.

“do NOT stay at this hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

my family (me, wife, and 2 young children) stayed at this hotel last weekend. we arrived at 330pm (30 minutes before check-in) to find the reservation area full of folks waiting to check-in. at 4pm, we asked about our room and were told that the room is not ready and that we will be notified when it is available. at 420pm, i inquired about the room again and was told that the room was still not ready although i had seen several other couples (older, no kids) head to their rooms. i told the staff that i was disappointed that our room was not ready given that we had just spent 6 hours in the car and that my kids were ready to rest. at that point, a doorman told me to calm down and that he understood the situation and that our room would be ready soon. apparently, all rooms checked out that day and they didn't have enough hotel staff to deal with the cleaning which is why many rooms were not ready. i asked him if he had kids and he said no. i then explained to him that he couldn't relate to my situation. this escalated our conversation to the point that the receptionist offered to call the police to help solve this situation. great customer service, right? needless to say, the police were not called and we were given another room that was ready. the entire issue could have been avoided had our room been ready or the staff had been professional. savannah has tons of hotels. stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: stay at another hotel

“Central, Historic, Noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

a great place to park the car ($10 pd) and use as a base for walk about's in the historic district. The room was beautiful, with a comfortable bed, hardwood floors and even an iity-bitty balcony overlooking the river-front park. There is a lot of action going on in the park so this may not be the best spot if you like to sleep in. the food trucks were out en-mass in the early AM.
it is a unique property though (clean too) and right in the middle of the historic water front. Everything is an easy walk from here, no need to drive the car once you've checked in. Speaking of checking in .. there is a generous noon check out thus we couldn't check in till 4 or so ..

Room Tip: the higher up the better - 4th floor is street level on the city side
