“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

We were in Savannah for 2 night on our way back home from a cruise. The rooms were nice, the staff was great, but the location being right downtown is what makes it. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. They have access to a parking garage for $15 per day and valet service, and trust me its well worth it in downtown Savannah.

We were in town for my daughters wedding. A party of nine stayed in this hotel. My room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. The wine and cheese in the evening was very nice. The breakfast wasn't the best, more like you would get at a Motel not a historic hotel. The coffee and juice were great the rest not so much. They are surrounded by great restaurants within walking distance. The Pink House being excellent. The staff was very polite and nice to us.. They were very helpful to my Daughter and her now husband. The wedding was on Columbia square and was beautiful. We had unexpected warm weather which was a real gift. We walked all over Savannah. Would come back to the Planters Inn again.

Room Tip: Diffinately needed the room Darkening Drapes since the Garage across the street is lit up all night...

The Planter's Inn is a beautiful property located in the historic district of Savannah. You can walk to River Street and many other places you would want to see. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed linens were comfy and cozy. The staff was very kind and helpful with all we needed. Our heat was not working properly and even though they could not get it fixed, they offered to move us to another room and even gave us a discount on the room rate. The lady at the front desk called several times to make sure we were warm enough and comfortable. There was wine and cheese in the late afternoon and cookies in the evening in the lobby. Take a break from the regular chain hotel stay and try the Planter's Inn. It was a great experience.

The Planters Inn has been through a lot of refurbishments over the years – my wife compared it very favourably to a stay she had 30 years ago! But the building (and the location in the historic downtown preservation area) limit what can be done. The building footprint is very cramped and that is reflected on the inside. The foyer/reception area is comfortably furnished, but when guests turn up for complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon, available chairs are at a premium. There is no convenient place in the foyer for the luggage trolley and the breakfast room on the mezzanine floor is cramped.

The rooms are well furnished and carefully maintained, but more cramped than a more modern hotel (with no space to put away suitcases). Our room looked out onto a parking garage, but this location is the middle of a bustling city – and it was a quiet place in spite of that.

The extremely busy breakfast room offered a fairly typical hotel buffet with a limited selection. I assume that there is inadequate kitchen space for anything more adventurous. If you are picky about your breakfast, I recommend going round the corner to Henry’s.

To compensate for the tight squeeze – the staff are very friendly and helpful. Valet parking is efficient and speedy. There is a real ambiance and character about the place. We certainly enjoyed our stay in Savannah at the Planters Inn over Christmas.

Met and exceeded our expectations. While we did not see any ghosts (ok, not expecting that one) we had a lovely room in one of the most beautiful and classically Savannah hotels imaginable. The happy hour every evening allowed us to mingle with other fun and interesting guests, and the hostess Karen was awesome ! She was charming, informative, and conversational, helping us learn so much more about where to go and what to do. The hotel was perfectly centrally located on Reynolds Square and within walking distance of everything we wanted to do, including the Olde Pink House restaurant next door. And the hotel was so gorgeously decorated for Christmas - we will head back again soon because this hotel made our trip romantic and special.

Room Tip: Overlooking the square is best

We arrived very late and were greeted with open arms. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was yummy, even if the room it was served in was cramped.
The location is excellent for exploring Savannah and I very much appreciated the cheese and wine reception from 5:30pm.
Overall I was impressed. The bathroom was a little dated and the plug on the bath didn't fully close.
I would stay here again.

Lobby small but lovely and decorated very nicely for Christmas. Staff was consistently very helpful and pleasant. Room very nice and quiet and tastefully decorated. Quiet. Great location. There are no views from rooms - rooms face a parking garage. In the publicity photo it's only the portion with white 'awning' area that's the actual building. May be a few rooms facing the square, but most do not! Breakfast buffet was a real disappointment. We'd stay again, but not eat there.

Room Tip: Ask if there are any rooms facing Reynolds Square. Not sure they exist, but otherwise you're lo...
