A cheesy title but accurate. My husband and I booked The Brice through Hotwire as a last minute birthday getaway.
We arrived Sunday afternoon and were promptly given keys to our 2 queen room. We had requested a king but with Hotwire, it's a roll of the dice. The room was on the pool end of the property with a view overlooking the street and the pool area. NOTE: If you are a light sleeper, you'll hear street noise if you're in this section of the property.
The room was outfitted with upgraded amenities including robes, a yoga mat, umbrella, and safety flashlight. I imagined the designer sitting on the end of our bed thinking, "Now what would travelers need that they wouldn't want to lug with them?"
Our room had an armoire instead of a closet. Storage and drawer space was very limited. We stayed for five days as light packers and we maxed out the space. Noticably missing was a coffee maker. When I inquired at the front desk, a single serve Keurig and supplies were delivered to our room with supplies refreshed each day.
We noticed that the room felt warm and slightly damp but chalked it up to a Savannah summer afternoon. We turned the temperate lower and took off sight seeing. Unfortunately, the thermostat had a mind of its own. It would randomly stop working, flash a variety of codes, twice even turned over to heat. Maintenance did their best to fix the gremlin but the room remained damp feeling throughout our stay. Had our room's HVAC worked properly, I would have given this property a solid five stars.
The property has above and beyond features that would bring me back - yes, even inspite of the HVAC gremlin. There's an interior open air courtyard with a variety of couches, chairs, bistro seating arrangements. Every evening from 5:00 - 6:00 they offer free house wine. We also were given the option of Brice Tea (iced tea, lemonade, vodka) with small appetizer bites. On Tuesdays they feature free acoustic music and a variety of (for purchase) appetizers.
Mornings offer coffee and tea in the 'livingroom', a large area featuring hundreds of books, comfortable couches, soft gray and white colors that ease you into the morning. We dined at Pacci, the onsite restaurant for breakfast twice. Nothing spectacular on the menu but a well rounded offering with a European bent.
There are beach cruiser style bikes available, stainless steel water bowls for the four legged guests, and some of the friendliest staff we've had the pleasure of meeting during our travels.
The location is perfect. You're across the street from a large park that runs riverside, walking distance to the fun craziness of the riverfront tourist area, and a peaceful stroll to several of the squares (parks). All in all, I'd highly recommend The Brice if you're looking for a spot in the heart of Savannah that offers a dose of tranquility with it's Southern charm.
