“Beautiful hotel, disappointing experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Our first night in our premium room was a nightmare - the people above us had two children who were either moving furniture or running around from about 6 to well after 1am. We called to complain at least twice but nothing changed. Then we learned that the people who had had our room the night before ALSO had complained and moved to another room! We met with the manager to discuss our experience the next day - we had to find out why in the world they put us in a room where people had had a problem the night before? She reduced the price on our room, which was very nice, but one of our 3 precious romantic evenings had already been ruined. We recognize that old hotels don't always have the thickest walls, BUT...

This is advertised as a B&B but it really is a hotel that serves breakfast, which Is only so-so (so much so that we skipped it twice). Wine and cheese served at happy hour is unremarkable. All in all, the room and the lobby are nicely appointed, but the experience, which we thought would be a lovely B&B, was disappointing. Perhaps I'd feel differently if the desk had dealt with the noise issue more professionally the first night.

We love the Marshal House!..We always book one of the balcony rooms facing Broughton..slide up the window and hang out on balcony..close to everything..staff is always so very friendly..we have stayed several times and ALWAYS have great time...pay no attention to negative reviews..those people are just nuts..sure there may be a bit of noise at times from the street but we dont come to Savannah to sleep..turn on the radio or tv..and hope you are not awaken by 'guests' from long ago...

Room Tip: try to book a balcony room ..free breakfast is a great value...good quiche

This is a historic hotel with real charm. From arrival, the concierge was extremely helpful. Our room was not large but clean and very comfortable. Location is brilliant; you are at the heart of the historic district of Savannah. We opted for the concierge parking which ended up at (I think) $30 or so for two nights but took the stress out of things. Also some nice touches such as complimentary cheese and wine in the early evening and a good choice at breakfast. Recommended.

While on our way from PA to the Florida keys, my husband and I stopped here last minute as we got too tired to drive! It was about 4am when we called expecting to arrive at 6am...the innkeeper allowed us to check in early right when we got there! This is absolutely unheard of in most places & truly shows how well they treat their guests!

The accommodations are wonderful! From the start when we were greeted cheerfully by Carlton at the valet who was so kind & gave us a great start to our morning, helping us with our bags & letting us know about breakfast as well as the **complimentary** wine and cheese tasting in the afternoon! Seriously, is anything truly complimentary anymore?! How good can it get!

To top it all off, if you're interested in history like we are, you will love that you're staying in a place full of it! You can read some of the other reviews if you want to learn a bit but I would wait until you get there to discover it yourself! Also - all the doors & stairs are original! How cool?!

5 stars all around, 100%.

We stayed six nights at the Marshall House in Savannah. We had a room on the fourth floor that was very quiet and very nice. We had a desk with free Wi-Fi, an armoire for our clothes, a large bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. The staff was very friendly and always ready to help find an activity or museum for us to see. They have a wine and cheese reception every night where you can meet lots of other travelers. The breakfast was good, but mostly breads and muffins. They did have quiche every day. We walked across the street to a great little diner for breakfast a couple of mornings.

The Marshall House is in a perfect location for visiting the old part of Savannah. We did not have a car and walked everywhere except for Bonaventure Cemetery. It is only three blocks to River Street and close to all the old houses and restaurants.

I definitely recommend this hotel as a great place to stay in Savannah.

Just returned from a wonderful stay at the Marshall House. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant. The hotel lobby was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We stayed at a classic king room, which was super cute with its old-time charm. Not a huge space and thin walls, but what we expected for a historic building and was not a problem for us. Did not have any supernatural experiences which was ok with me. Location was great! We never touched our car the whole weekend. Everything in the historic district is within walking distance. The continental breakfast was pretty adequate. We never made it back in time for the wine and cheese reception because we were always out and about, but hope to catch it at a future visit. We already booked our room to return in two months to celebrate our anniversary. Highly recommend the Marshall House!
