This Hotel is perfectly located. The interior elevator that leads right down to River Street (exclusively for registered guests) is a great perk. The concierge/ Staff were friendly and polite. The valet (parking) was always prompt.
Now for the cons.
The room was average and could stand a good "spring" cleaning. The carpets looked as if the haven't been vacuumed in a while. The bathroom shower is small and in need of new grout. The toilet wouldn't flush unless you held down the handle. We dished out an extra $50. per night for a river view room only to find the windows filthy. We were out all day only to come back in the evening to find that housekeeping had never come, so we had to call down for some fresh towels. NO continental breakfast. NO hot tub.
Would I stay there again? Probably. But I will check surrounding hotels first, as this hotel is pricey for what you get.

This hotel had a great location but had some problems. In all fairness, they had had a power outage the night before. My room had a musty smell and, despite being a smoke-free property, cigarette smoke permeated into the room.

  • Liked — I liked the location along the river with the riverwalk right out the back door.
  • Disliked — I disliked the musty odor and cigarette odors and having to pay for internet access.

Paid over $400 per night including tax, and was amazed that there is no free internet anywhere in the hotel. $5.95 for FIFTEEN MINUTES in the business center!! Irritating that surrounding hotels charging $100s less per night (and ranked higher on this site) all advertise free internet. Next time I'll take them up on it.

We booked this hotel through Priceline - my original bid for $85 per night was rejected and the website suggested $107 per night so that is what I settled on. I took the advice of other Priceline travelers and emailed the concierge to request a king bed and corner room. When we checked in we were pleasantly surprised to be assigned a large king room with a beautiful river view.

The hotel was very clean and airy. The employees were very friendly and always seemed to smile and say hello when we walked by. The room itself was also clean but like the other reviews I did notice the dirty windows and small bathroom (please see photos). Although the windows were dirty (due to the waterfront) we still thoroughly enjoyed our views. We also discovered the Garden Terrace on the fourth floor which had lovely views of the city and Savannah River. We did not try out the gym or pool so I cannot vouch for them. However we did try the VU lounge and room service. The Vu lounge had nice views of River Street and provided a relaxing atmosphere after a long day of sight seeing. The room service was very prompt and filling, my husband especially enjoyed the famous she-crab soup.

Another neat feature to this hotel is the Carriage Stand. You can pick up a carriage ride public or private by walking right out the front door. We took a private ride at dusk and it was very pleasant. It lasted about an hour and the tour guide tailored it to our needs. We opted for traditional history mixed in with some gossip and ghost stories. We also took the Old Savannah -Paula Deen tour which provides you with an overview of Savannah history, goodie bags, lunch at Uncle Bubba's, and reservations at Lady & Sons.

All in all we would stay here again. The beds are comfy, the views are nice, and the location is spectacular. We were minutes away from everything you would want to see in Savannah: Lady & Sons Restaurant, City Market, Chippewa Square, Pink House, Sorrell-Weed House, and of course the River Front. We opted to drive to Bonaventure Cemetery, Forsyth Park and the Mercer House since it was more than a mile away.

We expected more from a Hyatt. Mandatory valet parking for 17$ a day would have been nice to know about in advance, as well as 1.07 for every local call made from room. We also had to pay a deposit of 50.00 a day for "incidentals". It was refunded when we checked out minus local call charges. There was a one cup coffee maker in the room with only one serving of coffee provided. (Paper cup) There was a note inviting us to their cafe for Starbucks coffee, not free, of course. Come on! On the way to Savannah, we stayed in a less expensive hotel (much less) and got more for our money. (coffee pot in room and free hot breakfast)
While this type of nickel and diming is not unexpected in a tourist town, we didn't expect it from a higher priced hotel. What are the higher prices for?
