“A nice Get-Away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed as a last hurrah weekend before he departs on a year-long deployment. From the beginning the Inn Managment was great at providing suggestions on restaurant and outings. They are fabulous with asking any food allergies or preferences AND accomodate them on a daily basis. While not near the "action" of City Market or Bay Street, this gem is set back about 10 blocks and therefore quiet. It is a block from Forsythe Park, which is a great place to go first thing in the morning for a quiet respite. It only takes about 10 min to walk to Bay Street/ the River and about 15 to City Market at a sedate pace.

The Inn has been beautifully restored. A gourmet breakfast is offered each monring, along with wine and snacks in the afternoon (Mon-Sat). If you need a quick sweet treat before bed, don't worry, they have that covered as well. The beds are luxurious and each room is very spacious. Complimentary Wi-Fi is offered in each room. There is a pool offered Mar-Nov for guest use. The toilertry products are heavenly.

Kudos to Teresa and Jake for providing such a welcoming home away from home. Best part, they support our Vets with special programs. You can't go wrong if you are looking for a quiet respite away from home. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Bottom two rooms have a private patio that opens to the pool area so you don't have to walk thro...

Upon our arrival we discovered that they no longer offer “Onsite Parking.” This was not mentioned at all when we made our reservation and received confirmation. You would think that they would remove this false information from their website and written literature. You are lucky if you find a parking spot anywhere on the street. Do not drive anywhere at night and expect to find parking when you return. You may have to park 2 blocks away like we did. Truth!
Photos of the front porch look warm and inviting, and as if the front porch was large (it is not large). Also don’t expect the beautiful wicker furniture on the front porch.
First breakfast – Frozen Mixed Fruit that came out of a bag I’d buy at B.J.’s which was served in a lovely parfait dish. Frozen – really?? All other breakfast items were good.
Live Oak Canopy Room was very lovely. The bed was luxurious and super comfortable. Two complaints with regards to the bathroom: # 1 Rough toilet paper. For the amount of money charged per night, they should have had better quality toilet paper. # 2 The tiles in the shower in the corner on the floor looked ancient and moldy. Not too impressive for the money spent on this room times 4 nights.
The wicker table on the balcony had a large chunk missing from the top. That did not look impressive at all. Overall this B&B was a little too much off the beaten path for me. I will stay closer to the riverfront on my next visit to Savannah at a hotel that “really” offers parking.

My husband and I stayed at Azalea Inn during our long 4th of July weekend trip to Savannah, GA and had an amazing time, we didn't want to leave! Every staff member went out of their way to make us feel at home in Savannah, recommended restaraunts and things to do in the area, and made sure all of our needs were met. The Inn itself is centrally located, it was convenient to be able to walk everywhere. We absolutely loved the romantic, homey atmosphere of this Inn and will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Savannah. Each breakfast meal we shared there was wonderfully prepared and the room we stayed in was perfect and well kept. Teresa, Jake, Shannon, Madi, Susan, Megan, Diane, Miss Betty and little Joey made our experience awesome! Highly recommend to all travelers, check this place out!

Room Tip: Their website is easy to use and has pictures to help you choose the room that is right for you!

I can see that many people have enjoyed their stay at this inn but I can only describe our personal experience. The first point I would make is that to me the Inn was nothing like what I had expected from looking at the website and watching the video. I was expecting something much more grand and elegant. I think it is a shame to overhype something because inevitably people will be disappointed. Everything looks much smaller and simpler in real life. We were pleased to be able to book the cottage as our teenagers could sleep upstairs and we slept downstairs. It is worth noting that the staircase is outside of the cottage so if you are staying their with younger children you will probably want to be with the children. Having said that it was good to have our own mini kitchen with fridge and equipment (no washing machine though). We had a terrible night sleep - the room is very noisy from the air conditioning machine just outside the cottage and the blinds don't stop the outside light shining directly onto your face in bed. There are also lots of glass doors with only a net curtain and there is a curtain between the loo and bedroom (no door). There is a very deep side to the bath to get into the shower and our daughter bruised her leg trying to climb over - not suitable for someone who has mobility difficulties. The bathroom needs updating. There was a strong smell of drains when you walked into the lower bedroom - this may be because of storms but it was quite overwhelming. Breakfast is at a set time of either 8.30 or 9.30 but the 8.30 was full when we arrived. In the end we went to a supermarket and bought our own breakfast both days which we could eat using the kitchen. Staff were friendly but we did not meet the owners who are on the video at any time. As I say there is a great mismatch between the glamorous video and the reality but we were glad of the separate cottage and its kitchen.

We are sorry that you and your family did not receive the experience that you expected nor the experience we strive to give every guest that stays with us. We would first like to address the Garden Cottage concept – it is two separate rental units, therefore there is no connection between the two floors. The first floor is an open concept suite with a Living Room, Kitchenette, a huge comfy King bed and bathroom with a 2-person Jacuzzi Tub/Shower combination. We did notice the odor upon checking the guest into the downstairs cottage which turned out to be a plumbing issue that was rectified within the next 24 hours – though that did not help the guest at all. Unfortunately we were full and had no place to move them to, so they chose to stay. We were not aware that the air-conditioning unit was making a noise. Our heat/air company is on call 24/7 and we certainly would have had it looked at had we been informed (the situation is now corrected) A fairly recent addition by the city to the back lane is a street lamp – which does indeed reflect into the bedroom and for which we have provided light-blocking shades at all windows as well as louvered blinds. (Perhaps it is time for the innkeeper to spend the night in this room?!)

The small vestibule (entry) into the first floor of the carriage house does have light “gauzy” curtains on three sides, but there is also a privacy screen in place at the pool facing wall. These light window curtains are clearly shown on the website room pictures.

We do offer breakfast at 2 breakfast seating times - 8:30 or 9:30 - and sometimes the requested seating is full, but we always offer alternatives such as breakfast on the patio or in your room. We did offer to carry the family breakfast at their poolside table and they declined. The next day an 8:30 seating time was available and they declined again. We make every effort to accommodate every guest to the best of our ability, especially when it comes to food & dining…two of our favorite things at the Inn. (As an aside the weekend menu was adjusted for this family to accommodate their request for no eggs.)

Thank you so much for your kind words about our friendly staff…we love what we do and the city we live in! We aren’t sure how you missed Teresa, she was here all weekend and that fiery personality and red hair are hard to miss. We would like to thank you for taking the time to write this review, without feedback from guests we cannot improve and it is always our goal to provide an outstanding experience. If we could just add that if you are ever unhappy with your accommodations anywhere, please speak with your Innkeeper during your stay – innkeepers have the goal of turning you into repeat guests.

The staff at Azalea were very helpful in booking our stay, as I called to get specific info about checking in late and the type of room available (booked a week before we traveled!) The staff is in until 9pm, but they accomodated us on an arrival after that. We stayed in the Gentleman's Parlor which is the Asian style room (kind a strange theme given the history and feel of the house and Savannah, but the room was beautiful and clean!) One thing we didn't like about the room was how central it was to the house, i.e. we could hear everything going on in the living area and kitchen as well as everyone coming in and out of the house. If you are a light sleeper you need a different room.

We really loved the presentation and taste of the breakfasts! There was also a huge selection of coffee and teas which my fiance really loved. Wine happy hour from 5-6 was a must - ample pours and great little snacks while you visit with other guests and the live-in Yorkie (who begs for a hand out from everyone). The dining room creates a friendly environment for meeting others, so if you prefer a private breakfast you'll have to eat in your room (which they can accomodate). Otherwise you'll be seated with the rest of the guests, and sort of made to carry on pleasant morning conversation while you are all served the same thing at the same time. I will say the staff was very accomodating with preferences, allergies and second helpings - we felt that our needs were very well met and we were more than just a dollar sign as you are in a chain hotel.

We would recommend Azalea and stay there again!

Room Tip: Gentleman's Parlor is right by the main entry, you can hear everything going on in the living an...

Hi Lauren V!

Thank you so much for your kind words about our Food & Inn! We LOVE Food almost as much as we Love our City! We are happy to hear that your boyfriend liked our Coffee/Tea Selections, the Tea is something new for us and we always appreciate feedback! We are glad that your room, Gentleman’s Parlor, was beautiful and clean for you…the Asian screens for the bathroom doors are our FAV part of the room. We tried to keep that room somewhat masculine since it was the original “Gentleman’s Parlor” that the men would retire to after dinner. That room is on the main floor of the house and close to the dining room, so usually breakfast conversation can be heard. We are always happy to accommodate any food allergies or dietary restrictions or even second helpings  for any of our guests…just another way we give you our personal service and hospitality! We look forward to welcoming you back…next time you come and see us, call us and we will find you the perfect room!

My boyfriend and I have started going to Savannah annually. The B&B we stayed at last time was booked so we stayed at the Azalea Inn & Gardens. We had a great time! We owner and the inn keepers were awesome. Breakfast was also very good and I'm very selective (I have a few dietary restrictions). We also enjoyed the daily social hour where we got a chance to meet the other couples staying at the Inn. The Inn was also very clean and walking distance (approx. one mile) from River Street. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others.

Room Tip: They have kings rooms and queen rooms, so if you need a king room it's best to ask for it in adv...

My family and I found this little piece of paradise through the Rough Guide to the U.S.A. The minute we walked through the door, we were captivated by the welcoming atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and friendly staff. We were able to enjoy our few days in Savannah much more with thanks to the good and helpful advice from Shannon, particularly as we have special dietary requirements. The rooms were the gloriously decorated and extremely clean and comfortable. We also enjoyed the bonhomie of the wine tasting, conversation with fellow travellers around the breakfast table, the food and company were second to none.
