“Clean Hotel, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2008

We booked a 3 night stay here after reading the reviews of other mid-price hotels in/near the Historic District. We're glad we did.

The hotel is relatively new, clean, and cookie cutter - which in this case is good. That was fine with us as we were looking for a base to explore Savannah.

What sold us was the location, one block from Bay Street, two blocks from City Market, and three blocks from River Street. It was easy leaving the car in the valet parking ($15 per night; garage in the basement levels of the hotel) and exploring by foot or on the guided tour services.

The front desk staff was very welcoming and helpful at check-in and provided great dining recommendations. One of their recommendations was this: after you get your fill of southern cooking, visit Vinnie-A-Go-Gos, a pizza place at the Montgomery Street/Franklin Square entrance to City Market. We had huge slices of neapolitan style pizza. We heard the calzones were great too.

Back to the hotel: it had an outdoor pool on the 2nd floor. We didn't go swimming, but sat out on the patio a bit. The rooms were on the medium size for a king-bed room and clean. The bathroom was a good size and is notable for the immense counter space. Housekeeping was acceptable; but they do make their rounds relatively early in the day. Wi-fi worked fine.

We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant or take advantage of the $10 breakfast buffet.

Some have commented on feeling insecure in the neighborhood. We didn't find our block to be any different than any other place we visited in Savannah day or night. For a small city, it has its share of panhandlers. And with the nearby Savannah College of Art and Design, lots of college students enjoying the liberties of the open container law.

We'll recommend this hotel to friends and would definitely stay here again.

The Four Points is a relatively new hotel. Being new, it has an inherent attractiveness and cleanliness that other older hotels would not have.

It's location at the northwestern corner of Downtown is very convenient and easy to get to. Several good restaurants and points of interest are within a short walk, yet one does not have to drive through several traffic lights to get into and out of town.

Rooms are average in size, with all of the conveniences you'd expect for a hotel in its category. The pool is rather small, but supple if all you are looking for is to get a break from the sweltering Savannah heat.

The staff was quite friendly and helpful in general. We had a small misunderstanding at the time of billing, but it was resolved quickly and in a respectful manner.

Three observations:

Be sure to decide and make clear to the front desk, at the time of check-in, whether or not you want to take advantage of the parking offered by the hotel. It is $15 per day, which I thought was rather pricey, until I found out how difficult it is to find parking on Savannah streets in the summer.

The bed mattresses are in need of being rotated. They are still firm on one side, but are beginning to sag on the other.

Breakfast is not included, but the breakfast bar looked very appetizing. There is good quality complimentary coffee and tea.

We had a reservation at the Doubletree in Savannah but on Friday the entire block of the historic district lost power. We noticed that the Four Points, which is directly across the street on MLK, had power so we called. They gave us an excellent rate on the spot and within minutes we were checked in and our vacation was back on track.

The room (#403) was a little small but had everything we needed. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. I did not use the gym but saw that the equipment was new and looked to be in good working order. The pool also looked to be in good shape and was a good size for the property.

In the morning we asked about room availability for Thanskgiving Week, they were able to get us exactly what we needed. Because of the power loss, the breakfast room was swamped as pelple form other hotel were comming over to the Four Points. I must say that the entire staff acted very well under pressure and after a short wait, we were able to have a nice breakfast. Is was even nicer that the hotel gave us comp passes for the breakfast. The buffet included, hot waffles, eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurt, cereals, milk, juices, Seatlle's Best Coffee and Tazo Teas.

I stayed three days at the four points in Savannah. It was a convenient location and a comfortable hotel. For a mid-priced hotel it was very nice. The staff was pleasant, the room was very spacious and modern with caswell massey toiletries and a marble bathroom. The pool was exceptional with lots of room and a nice view. The breakfast bufffet was very good with really good biscuits with cream and sausage gravy. The hotel bar was a little small.

  • Liked — very large and comfortable rooms for the price
  • Disliked — a little on the edge of everything rather than in the heart of things.

The hotel is beautiful, clean, and right on your way into town, however, the staff needs to get it together. Went down to the bar for an advertised happy hour with $5 cocktails (there was a sign right outside the door of the hotel) but young bartender girl and management figure had no idea what I was talking about. Asked for a drink she didn't know how to make. I got some wine but she didn't have enough of what I wanted and didn't have any more cold (didn't even seem to know white wine is supposed to be cold)...

It costs $15 a day for valet parking (there is VERY little free parking on the side of the road outside the hotel--don't park on the yellow or you will get a ticket!)...

Overall I would say this is a good hotel but the staff does need to learn to communicate to each other and to the guests a little better.

  • Liked — New hotel, clean, nice accomodations
  • Disliked — Service, paying for parking, lack of communication

A great hotel in the Historic Savannah. Close to the Riverfront, City Market, and shopping. Stayed there for 3 nights; great and helpful staff. Surprisingly good breakfast - fresh berries, cereal, and your typical continental breakfast food. The hotel also has a 24-hour coffee and tea in the lobby - no need to waist money at Starbucks. There is a nice outdoor warm pool and also 2 internet stations for keeping in touch with friends :) Overall, a great hotel in a great location!!!!

This has to be the worst hotel in Savannah. Nothing hot for breakfast only pastry and bagel with no jelly or cream cheese! Second day no room cleaning because of short staff. They did leave clean towels hanging on the door in a bag with an note saying management was so sorry. My husband and I come to Savannah every two years but this was the first time staying at this hotel. Be advised stay some place else.
