As most reviewers have pointed out, the parking situation is atrocious, but the staff's communications about it are the weakest aspect of this property's performance.
The hotel is beautifully appointed and, yes, it is conveniently located.
But... no matter how much fun you had with your family and friends out dining and otherwise enjoying Savannah's wonderful offerings, coming back to the hotel at midnight and after spending 20 minutes fruitlessly searching the parking lots in the dark for an open spot and then having the staff at the front desk barely register a hint of sympathy or apology for the lack of accommodations definitely puts a damper on the whole evening.
And then knowing you're going to have a repeat performance the next night. And you do.
The manager responds here, "We apologize about your dissatisfaction with the parking at the hotel. Sometimes when the hotel is at full capacity we allow guests to park in neighboring parking lots." His response emphasizes the bigger problem: note that he doesn't apologize for the (very real) lack of amenities one would expect for the rates charged; instead, he regrets the guest's "dissatisfaction." There's also a communication problem. Upon check-in, we were not told that the hotel lacks enough on-site parking, which led to the most irritating aspect of the experience: driving around the parking lots in the middle of the night thinking there has to be a spot, but never finding one. And it's not like the subject never came up; they were real good about letting me know not to park in an adjacent business' lot.
There are criticisms in these reviews of the apathy displayed by some of the staff -- which match my experience exactly -- but, to be fair, one must wonder just how wearing the situation is on them as well.
I won't return. The rooms were pretty, but not perfect. You have to sidle sideways between the toilet and the tub to get in the shower. The exploration mission to figure out where they hid the toilet paper takes waaaay too long, especially conducted while rooted to the toilet seat. The AC in the hallway was on full blast -- while the temps outside were in the 30s. The high-tech flatscreen's software had glitches and the TV's user interface was not the best designed.
Unfortunately for the Hilton Garden Inn, there are a number of other nice properties in Midtown that don't have the parking challenge.
