Add this to your list of things to do in Savannah, and if you like ice cream at all (who doesn't?) you won't be sorry! Eating delicious ice cream is always a treat, and visiting this unique ice cream parlor was just as much of a treat. The Leopold’s Ice Cream history is interesting and you can read all about it while enjoying your ice cream. I had a scoop of chocolate chocolate chip (and the scoops are generous) - wonderful! After I read the history I had to ask for a taste of tutti-frutti to see why it was so loved and it was fabulous as well. The original Leopold’s Ice Cream was founded in 1919 and closed in 1969. Many of the old fixtures were kept in storage and put back in use when the shop reopened in 2004, including the black marble soda fountain. The shop has an old fashioned look with movie props and posters displayed here and there due to the film career of one of the original owner’s sons (and now current owner of Leopold’s). Fun to see!
