We enjoyed our visit to River Street Sweets this afternoon. After reading the reviews about poor service, I expected to encounter rude employees. This was not our experience at all. We actually visited the location at Market Street first and got some great tips from a young, male employee on places to eat for lunch. He suggested Tapas, next door, and it was delicious! In addition, he explained about the business and offered us free samples of taffy. We also got fresh samples of pralines when we arrived.
Later in the afternoon, we stopped by the store on River Street to purchase pralines for a gift. We were given more samples and arrived in time to see the taffy being made. Both of the 20 year olds serving us were kind about answering questions about how the taffy was made and details about the machines. They were not owners, just employees working a summer job. Our children thought the sweets shop was one of the best parts of our visit.
I'm not sure why our experience was so different, from the other reviews. We did not purchase anything until the end of our second visit and even then it was just a small order of taffy and pralines. Even when it got busy, they were still kind about answering our questions and allowing us to watch them work. My husband says they were nice to me hoping I would leave and stop asking questions :)
I have enjoyed reading reviews on TripAdvisor often, but this is the first time my experience has been so different from what others have shared. So, I was compelled to share my experience and hope others will be sure and visit this fun little spot on their tour of Savannah. Did I mention how yummy those pralines were?
