“Thunderbird's "GO!"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

What a lovely Motel. For the price, the comfort level was 4 star. Soft bed, Spacious room, good aircon, good water pressure and clean carpets.

Location wise, It's 4 blocks from the River walk, opposite the Grey Hound bus station. I did not mind the walk as it gives one a chance to explore more of this stunning city. (theres a gas station on the corner neat the hotel that sells beer 24/7) BONUS!

On a road trip across the states that has seen us stay in numerous faceless roadside motels, The Thunderbird Inn was a little slice of retro style...I loved it.

Beyond the gorgeous styling of the motel, the facilities were just as great. Standard sized rooms, comfy beds and clean clean clean. Super cute bath accessories. friendly staff, Parking at the door and within walking distance to all of Savannah's finest. Krispy Creme Donuts for breakfast was an (indulgent) bonus!

Located right opposite the greyhound depot, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was in a less than desirable location...but no. We never felt unsafe, even walking home late at night.

I would have no hesitation in recommending The Thunderbird to anyone.

We were looking for something close to the Historic District and River Street, but not something that would break the bank. We were pleased with Thunderbird and would not hesitate to stay again. The Facts: The bathrooms are tiny, the beds are comfy and clean, a few things need updating, the price is right, only Krispee Kremes for breakfast, extremely friendly/helpful staff, a good 10-15 minute walk to Bay Street/River Walk, felt safe. A couple other things... we found parking on the River Walk to be inexpensive (not even a factor after 5pm) so we mostly drove down there to avoid the 10-15 walk when we just wanted to be back. Also, I really was impressed by the staff, all were friendly. I had forgotten to print a ticket... they did it promptly without hesitation for me. Also, I saw them act immediately for a few needs. It's not a fancy place, but it's cool and nice enough.

We had a great week in Savannah thanks in part to the Thunderbird Inn. We looked all over the internet for a place that would allow pets. Out of the handful we found Thunderbird Inn was the only one that wasn’t crazy expensive. The staff was very friendly and the moon pie on our pillow and the doggy treat bag for our pup was an unexpected surprise. We will definitely be staying there again.

Wonderfully hip hotel; this 48 year old felt so cool staying there! Great location and my 16 year old said that this was the best bed ever! Superior customer service; went out and parking lot was full and I expained our situation and Wendy (staff) moved her car so we could park the car on site. Definitely will stay there again!!!!

This hotel is GREAT for pet owners who travel with pets. However, I did not bring my pets, only my four kids. The room was updated and clean. The room seemed to have a few scratches on furniture and a small rip on the drapes probably from a pet. The air was FABULOUS. VERY COLD-just the way I love it! The walls are thin-I could hear a man sneeze in the next room while I was watching tv; however, I slept like a baby, on the GREAT bed provided. The hotel was the most reasonable around. It is very close to the historic district. The breakfast consists of Krispy Kreme donuts, juice and coffee. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. I would stay here again if it was for one night-more than that would get old. There is no pool for the kids or any other amenities.

If you want to be in the heart of downtown historic Savannah without breaking your wallet, this is the place to be! It's nice, clean, and the staff is wonderful! Bday discounts, Motown in the parking lot all day, and parking before your room is ready and parking for your last day after checkout! It is a 5min walk to anywhere. It has the 50's,60's, 70's retro feel.
