“Great Place in Historic Savannah”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

I took my wife to Savannah for the night and this hotel was amazing.

Although not situated on River Avenue, this place is so worth it.

First, the staff is above and beyond expectations. They are friendly, accommodating and extremely knowledgable. Every person we spoke to knew everything we asked. They knew places to go and see and they also knew the best order to do it. They took of our things, our room and our requests as well.

Valet parking is $22 for the night but worth it. You would have to park on the street and the staff warned us about street sweeping schedules. We chose the valet. It was worth not worrying about my rental car.

The room we had, 203, was great. Separate shower and toilet from everything else. There was also a huge tub that could fit two people. It was classy and well done. The television was HD and a good size for the room. The bed seemed new. It was comfortable and there were plenty of pillows.

We found deals online and when people heard we were staying there, everyone assumed we were paying more than $100 above actual price.

They have an outdoor pool, a bar area and a restaurant next door. The hotel is lined with artwork for sale, nice classy pieces. Nothing cheap or classless. It is a nice touch.

The staff holds doors. They provide cold water. They want you to have a good time.

The Mansion at Forsyth park did it right for me.

Room Tip: Make sure you choose a park view. Much better than the parking lot view.

One of my meeting colleagues called it "early bordello", especially in the rooms. But overall, it makes a quality impression. And artwork everywhere. Some you'll like, some, well ... you won't.

But that's art, right? Personal taste.

Staff and service were excellent.

Food was very good for our meetings. (there were around 80 of us for a day-and-a-half)

Couldn't get anywhere near the main door without a valet swinging it open for you.

Nice touches like lemonade in the lobby in the afternoon.

Yeah, it's a bit dated for sure, but overall in pretty good repair to my experienced eye.

Even had those fabulous BOSE radio/CD players instead of the usual, el cheapo alarm radios. Terrific sound quality - which is why we have one on our bedside table at home!

Forsyth Park across the street, Spanish moss everywhere, and right on the edge of the historic district and all of those fabulous squares that Savannah is famous for. I walked and walked between meetings, experienced them all!

I'll take the Mansion over any of the 'usual suspects' every time!

This hotel has multiple issues to clear up. I would not recommend a stay here until the mildew/obvious water leak in 4th floor hall is fixed, the car valet does their job correctly, and ANY fees are addressed @ reservations. It is a run down building that needs much more than a coat of paint(fyi-it needs that also). The neighborhood is blocks off the heartbeat of the tourist area they ate selling. The park has great potential, but it's not there yet! A few highlights are the nice kid who helped with our luggage and the very tasty sandwich from the shop to the south end of Forsyth park. Don't trust this place with your car, or your money! Marriott blew this one!

I have stayed at the Mansion often, but will no longer. They closed the absolutely wonderful concierge lounge just a few days before our arrival for good. This lounge was the only reason I selected this hotel. It was wonderful and the replacement, four stories down, a long walk through the lobby and the bar, outside the building, into another building, then a long staircase up with no elevator, was absolutely terrible. We will not stay at this hotel again.

I spoke with some of the employees and understand that they can use the former lounge on the 4th floor for a suite they can sell, but the service provided to all their concierge lounge customers is now pathetically bad. The former 4th floor lounge for their customers that were paying for a concierge lounge experience was exceptional. This new set-up is unacceptable on many, many levels. Stay very far away.

Room Tip: Don't book on the concierge level, you will be incredibly disappointed.

Loved our stay - gorgeous hotel and room and amenities. Great bed and bathroom. Had everything we wanted and needed. Want to go back and try the spa and cooking class. I love fabulous hotels and this one fit the bill!

We were picking up my child after a summer program and I was frustrated to find all moderate priced in-town lodging like Hampton etc totally booked. So I went up a level and found the Mansion which had a vacancy. It was a highlight of our trip. It is a rare non-chain hotel which was well run and really beautiful. We had a park view room with a bath which you could open up to the room by pulling back beautiful draperies. Sounds strange but it was functional and nice. The hotel was built skillfully to look like the adjoining 1800's mansion which serves as the restaurant. The park across the street is beautiful and great for morning walks or runs. It is an easy walk to the best
parts of the city. I saved the valet parking cost and easily found on street non-metered parking behind the hotel. We will def return to this hotel if reasonably affordable rooms are available. Staff was very good.

The Hotel is fabulous - our room (on the street) was beautifully fitted and quiet, the staff outstanding, and the Spa and cooking class both great. Late checkout on our last day - absolutely no problem. Parking on the street was no problem. But we have to agree with one earlier reviewer that the Concierge Lounge facilities, now moved to two cramped rooms over the restaurant, was way below expectations. We didn't see any comment cards either - we wonder why?
