They moved to a location on MLK instead of Whitaker. This new place looks nicer inside but I could not have had worse service. First, we have a group of 5 well after midnight. Not only did it take quite some time to get any attention, but when I server finally arrived she was very rude. She asked if we were on separate checks so we said yes, then she tells us she isn't allowed to do that. Regardless we each got a sushi menu. I am allergic to rice and my boyfriend does not eat sushi. So I ordered an appetizer and a drink which did not equal $10. Apparently there is a $10 minimum per person which we didn't know about. She asked the manager and she said it was ok for me to have less than a $10 meal. Then since my boyfriend didn't want to order anything, she started getting an attitude saying he needed to order. When he asked "I can't just sit here?" she responded saying "This is a restaurant, not a bar". All this considering there were 3 other people getting full meals and myself getting an appetizer and soda. She finally "allowed" him to sit with us. I got one soda for $3, and no refill. Then when we went to leave, she put an automated gratuity of MORE than 20% on all of our bills, because we had a party of 5. Well my boyfriend didn't eat so we were only a party of 4. Plus after her repeated rudeness, I wasn't even planning on tipping (I'm a waitress myself, and I have always left a tip no matter what, but this was just crossing a line).

Whoever is running this restaurant needs to hire better help and rethink their policies. I don't think that in this economy, a restaurant should have a minimum order. I couldn't even eat $10 worth of sushi was I not allergic to it!

Absolutely ridiculous and I will NEVER go back.

Of course, Sushi Zen is convenient due to their hours, but that is about it. I had a bad experience the first time and decided to give it a second try (at their new location on MLK). First, most of the sushi is fried...which is very unappealing to me and defeats the purpose of striving for a healthier choice; second, for mediocre sushi, it was very pricey and so was the appetizer (four shumai for over $6!); third, my friend had a very fatty steak habatchi with burned fried rice and a very tasteless wasabi mashed potatoes; fourth, the entrees came out BEFORE the main course and the waitress said that it 'just happens sometimes'; and last, but never least, the waiter that took our order tried to convince my other friend to order the sushi off the menu as-is (aka, fried) when he asked for it to not be flash-fried, maybe it was too much of a hassle for waiter, I don't know. Not much for service or quality...and the sitting space is cramped...someone forgot to update the wait staff and chef when they moved to the new updated location. Definately choose Wasabi's across the street on MLK or Sakura around the corner on Broughton.

Fantastic. Great service, great sushi - always fresh and fun - frequented by SCAD students which keeps the atmosphere lively.
