“More Sake, more power!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

This place is just as good as it always was. Amazing Gyoza and stir-fries and great, moderately priced sushi. The suss dinners for two are a great value and the service is always fast and friendly and casual.

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013 via mobile

Off the tourist track, Hirano's is popular with business people on their lunch break. If you go for lunch, try to get there well before noon, or you might have a long wait for a table. The place is small and the decor is unassuming, but its value for the money is hard to beat. Our whole meal for the two of us, including drinks, came to under $20 and we have paid triple that for the same quality of food at fancier Japanese restaurants. (Of course, the chef doesn't do any clever tricks to entertain, but that's not our purpose in going there.) We started with the egg rolls, which are the best we've had anywhere. They are light and delicious and the dipping sauce is not the usual sweet and sour orange stuff. The salad that comes with the meal is mostly lettuce, but the ginger dressing is so good, my husband uses what is left to pour over his rice. The entrees come with rice (either white or fried) and a generous helping of vegetables. My shrimp were cooked just right and were very tasty. I use the shrimp sauce that is provided with every meal, because I don't like soy sauce. The ice tea is strong enough so it still tastes like tea even when it is diluted by melting ice, and our waitress refilled our glasses without being asked. It can get crowded and noisy, and if you are unlucky enough to have the table by the door, the people waiting can encroach on your space. Nothing fancy here, but well worth trying!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

I usually call ahead and take out from this location..food is ALWAYS amazing..fresh vegetables and our choice of cooked meats/seafoods are cooked to perfection !! This location is 'tucked away' near a corner in a 'strip mall' area off Abercorn St. Savannah Georgia..Service is VERY attentive and speedy too !!

“What has happened to the Habersham location?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

We had looked forward to having lunch here. It was too crowded as customers added tables to chairs and bumped into us getting up and down. Also, the food was not up to Hirano's standards....like it used to be. We got the shrimp special. The shrimp were overdone and the rice was dry. The vegetables were ok. The salad appeared to be wet and the dressing would not stick to it. Unsure if we will go back...we should have complained..but we waited so long for seating and service we felt it would be useless. Several parties got mad as they were sent over to the sushi annex where we ate and were turned away. Apparently the restaurant staff did not communicate...and these stand-offs did not make for a pleasant experience.
