We agree with everyone else here. The Mrs Wilkes experience is one worth having if you are in Savannah. There were over 20 different dishes- pretty much all of the southern delights you can think of. Unfortunately, it was hard to taste all of them without getting too full!

After reading the TripAdvisor.com reviews of this restaurant, I just had to check it out. It's really everything people said and more. The food was fabulous!

However, I really had not expected the sheer amount of food that would be provided. The day we went, I believe we had 2-3 main dishes and about 10 side items to choose from, plus bread and desserts. It was so overwhelming because everything was perfect -- it made it so hard to choose! We ate until we thought we were going to burst... and then we ate a little bit more.

The employees were pleasant and service was excellent also.

I would have to say that our visit to Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room was definitely one of the main highlights of our trip to Savannah. Next time, though, we will eat of our lunches there rather than just the one time.

We had a wonderful lunch after a brief wait. We passed the time visiting with other folks on line. We didn't really know what to expect so we were pleasantly surprised to be seated at a table fully set with bowls of delicious southern delights. Our group of six had a great time trying the variety of foods. The fried chicken, biscuits, mashed potatoes and okra & tomatoes were my favorites. My husband enjoyed the chicken & dumplings beef stew and banana pudding. We all over did on the collard greens. It reminded me of Sunday dinner with Grandma.

It's not often that you can say that going to lunch is one of the highlights of your stay in a town, but Mrs Wilkes is an exceptional experience. My advice is to arrive early as the line outside means waiting for admission. However once inside it is from my "English perspective" a unique eating experience.

My wife and I ate dishes and vegetables that we had never experienced before - there were simply a bewildering variety of vegetables. It was a real education.

The other plus was to be on a table with six other people from different parts of the USA who under other circumstances I would never have spoken to . Finally all this for $15 a head.

To visit Savannah and not visit Mrs Wilkes would be a big mistake

My husband and I were planning on going to the Lady and Sons while in Savannah, even though we knew it was a touristy thing to do. However, one of the concierges at our B&B said that the food there just wasn't the same since it had moved into the new building, but that Mrs. Wilkes was amazing. We decided to go there instead. Still touristy, but locals eat there as well.

The trip was so worth it. We waited outside for about 30-45 minutes, but it wasn't bad. The street is tree-lines, so there's lots of shade (we were there in mid-June, and in the shade the heat wasn't so bad), and the houses are so beautiful to look at. We were a bit wary of having to eat with strangers, but honestly, we were all so content with eating that no one spoke much. Our mouths were just too full! It was nice to meet new people, and everyone was extremely congenial and sweet. You really do feel like you're eating at a friend's house, passing the dishes around.

The food is excellent. Absolutely excellent. I'm not usually a fried chicken fan because it's usually so greasy, but let me tell you, I ate more than my fair share here! The sides are wonderful, and the desserts are delicious.

Mrs. Wilkes is a MUST for every trip to Savannah!
