“Excellent burger, beer and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

My husband and I recently tried The Public for dinner and we were so pleased with our experience. The burgers were delicious and cooked perfectly on a pretzel bun. I had the burger with caramelized onions and mushrooms and it was AMAZING. The orzo in a vinaigrette was so tasty-- the only complaint I can muster is that the portion of the side was a little small. No fries offered here-- this pub has lighter fare. The Lexington Bourbon barrel ale was out of this world and accompanied our burgers so nicely. Service was great and timely. We will definitely return.

“If you want good food in casual stylish atmosphere - go”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

This place looks low key, but the kitchen knows what it's doing. I had an excellent lunch of a grilled vegetable sandwich with a glass of Rosé, and a good light dinner of autumn salad - fresh and interesting flavour. Don't expect haute cuisine, do expect decent light dishes in cool, relaxed setting.

“Maybe ordered the wrong thing ?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

Had the Buffalo Burger. The meat patty had no flavor and the entire burger was on the dry side. Someone at the table had the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and was raving about it. No fries, had to settle for kettle chips. Service was good and prices average.

“Ahhhmazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We stopped in for dinner on our way back to the hotel and it was probably the best meal had the whole trip! The risotto was by far the best I've ever had - I didn't want the meal to end. This will be the first stop for a meal when we return to Savannah. Absolutely delicious!

“A local discovery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

While walking back to our Inn from the River Walk we had not found a local place to eat and were getting very disappointed after seeing one chain after another. Then we came upon The Public and people eating outside. Looking at the plates before the diners we immediately decided to give them a try. The hostess has one open table under the awning, there was a slight drizzle so cover was important.

We ordered martinis and they were a solid four ounces and delicious. This was our first night in the southeast and what the heck shrimp and grits it was. Well; I’ve had risotto all over the world in some of the finest restaurants from San Francisco’s North Beach to Milano and none of the them compared to the surprise my taste buds were about to encounter. The shrimp were fresh and plentiful, the bacon cheddar grits exploded with flavor and were accompanied by fresh peas, chorizo, tomato and sherry cream. The combination formed a delectable moist aroma compared only to a fine risotto.

Believe me when I say eat and drink at The Public Kitchen & Bar. If you don’t wander in at around 9:00 PM you probably need a reservation. The next day when we walked by in the early afternoon lunch hour the line was down the street.

Service was good, food served hot and promptly.
