Our third trip to Savannah, one of our favorite cities, was made just that much better by our stay in the Studio Homes at Ellis Square. As Blue Green owners, we are never exactly sure what to expect of our accomodations. This small, upscale resort turned out to be almost perfect. Situated in the heart of the historic district, two blocks off River Street, and within walking distance to just about everything to see in Savannah, our one bedroom on the third floor was beautifully appointed. Spotlessly clean, the contemporary decor included sleek furniture, stainless steel fixtures and appliances, flat screen tv's in both living room and bedroom, and a large bath with huge walk-in shower. Granite counter tops, stone tile, and luxurious linens, even on a queen, not king-sized bed, still made for a level of comfort we have not always encountered in Blue Green properties.
We found the staff to be professional and helpful with a bell captain/valet at the door to greet us every time we entered the lobby. Valet parking is $20/day but worth every penny as parking in this historical and tourism-driven city is very much at a premium. While guests enter the resort on the ground floor, check-in takes place on the 7th floor lobby. Both the ground floor and the 7th floor lobbies are small, but well-appointed. While checking in, guests can walk out onto the open air patio that looks over the historic district. A gas barbecue grill and patio furniture are available for guest use. Coffee is always available on the 7th floor as is chilled water. Our room had a small balcony, but alas! no outdoor furniture. Dining in our unit was at the kitchen bar so other than bar stools, there were no chairs (with the exception of an upholstered living room chair) to even borrow for sitting on the balcony. A couple of outdoor chairs and small cocktail table would have made for great city-watching in the evening.
Ultimately, the Studio Homes at Ellis Square are perfect for adults and couples wanting to enjoy all Savannah has to offer. I would not recommend this resort for young children as the entire resort is small and compact. Our unit took advantage of every inch of space without much left over for any type of play area for kids. The streets surrounding the resort are busy with traffic. For grownups, it is quiet, elegant, and relaxing.
