“Very scenic and relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Great tour and museum for the money. Be sure to call ahead for a guided tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history and personable. While the museum is small it is packed with history of the area. Picnic tables outside for a fabulous lunch under the moss covered oak trees.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2012

In the early 1800s, a 16 mile canal was built by black slaves and Irish laborers to link the Ogeechee and Savannah Rivers, and this became an important waterway for transporting goods such as cotton and rice. Today on Ft. Argyle Road just east of I-95, there is a center which preserves a small portion of the original canal along with an informative museum and nature center. While this site is important from a historical standpoint, my wife and I highly recommend it as a place for an easy and quiet nature walk through a pine forest and cypress swamp along the old canal to the Ogeechee River and back (one mile round trip). This makes for a nice morning or late afternoon break from the hustle and bustle of Savannah. Best of all, the center isn't yet on the radar of most tourists.
