My husband and I spent a week in Savannah for our honeymoon in August 2011. After exhausting all the touristy things downtown, and spending a few days at Tybee Beach, we were looking for something else to do, and being slightly adventuresome, found this place online. Nigel, the owner, was amazing! So great about helping explain what the best trips were for that time, which were slightly limited due to low tides. We went on a sunset trip, just the two of us with Nigel as our guide, which was awesome - we wound through marshy grass areas that get flooded during high tide and checked out wildlife. He taught us some good kayaking techniques, but also just had some good conversations with him about Savannah - having a cool guide makes all the difference when its just the 3 of you!
The next morning, we also took a day trip over to Little Tybee Island, with a guide named Preston. There was 1 other couple who joined us, who were very fun, so it made for an entertaining day! Preston spent more time telling stories about the area and pointing out all the various birds around us. The trip included a stop at Little Tybee Beach, which was gorgeous, would love to go back on our own sometime!
Overall, though very different, we loved both of our trips! You can tell Savannah Canoe & Kayak is a local business run by people passionate about kayaking, and it shows in all of their trips! You won't get huge groups with screaming children, but instead an intimate and awesome way to experience Savannah from a completely different lense. Highly recommend giving Nigel a call if you are ever in the area!
