“Beautiful, but not perfect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

We loved our room. Loved it! It was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, and the bedding and towels were plush and soft. Further, the location could not be beat. The hotel staff were also wonderfully nice. But that's where our enjoyment ended.

Issues the hotel can't help: Part of the building's charm is its age. The flip side of that is the thin walls with almost no sound barriers. Our neighbor had some pretty heated business calls during our stay. The outside also sounded unusually close (we were on the first floor).

Issues that were my fault: I didn't check the amenities list, taking for granted the room would have a refrigerator and a desk. Also, there was no workout room. I had no idea I was so spoiled to modern amenities.

Issues the hotel could work on: The hotel is "pet friendly" but it isn't actually designed to accommodate pets - no door hanger to notify staff cats were inside, and about a thousand nooks and crannies for the kitties to disappear into just when we needed to crate them. Our room had a beautiful door to the outdoor patio (nice!), but the blinds did little to block out the light. We'd have appreciated some curtains to keep out the street light at night and the sun in the early mornings.

In all, I think the East Bay Inn was charming, but we'll try something else the next time we come through Savannah.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 101, which I don't recommend. You can hear everything going on in the lobby, t...

I recently stayed at this Inn with a group of 10. We stayed for three nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The Inn is beautiful and the location is perfect. It is an easy walk to everything downtown and to River street. The staff constantly was asking if we needed anything, and even booked a tour for us. We plan to go back next week for our "girls reunion".

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor, these were very quick rooms. Note the Inn does not have a pool or fitn...

We made a quick stop on our way driving to our daughters volleyball tournaments in Orlando Florida. We were so happy we decided to take the time and stay. The East Bay Inn is truly a gem of a hotel. Our room was gorgeous, with comfortable Queen beds and plenty of room for two adults and two teenagers. Ms.Sheila and Mr. Melvin were fantastic sources of information, stories and felt us feel so welcome. We ran into a bit of bad weather and Ms. Sheila was so kind to lend us two umbrellas so we wouldn't be late for our dinner reservations. The hotel is full of wonderful pieces of antique furniture that add to the special ambience of history and hospitality that Savannah is known for.
Breakfast is first rate with many options to choose from. The pancakes are heaven and the requisite grits, gravy and biscuits are also good. We felt the price was also very reasonable given the beauty of the rooms, the location (downtown just off of Reynolds Square) , breakfast and quality of the hotel staff. Wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed for three nights at the East Bay Inn for our 20th anniversay. It truly added so much to our trip. From check-in to check-out we felt welcome and special. The folks at the front desk – Jennifer, Philip and Sheila – were not only helpful, but fun. Always a smile, always willing to go that extra mile. They will make reservations for just about anything you want do and then they make sure you know they have done it. Sheila even asked for our cell phone number and called about the time she was able to get for dinner at The Pink House – so we could plan the rest of our afternoon. They always reminded you to take a bottle of water which they provide.

It is located within walking distance of almost everything. A DOT bus stop is just across the street. Most of the HOHO buses stop within a block or two.

The room was exceptional. Beautiful furniture, spacious, comfortable...we particularly liked the exposed brick wall. We were in 328 – a deluxe queen. Granted – it was the parking lot view, but that did not deter from the general ambience.  There are river views and even one room with a patio for a slightly higher price. We also enjoyed reading the entries into the journal that was in the room. Some of the entries gave recommendations for places to eat and things to see. Excellent idea!

Speaking of price – We thought it was reasonable, but after staying there with all the amenities included, it is more than reasonable.

Skyler’s has started to provide the food for The Wine and Cheese Reception from 5:30PM to 7PM. Your choice of white or red wine, and there is much more than cheese (there are several types of cheese). The selection changed each night – one night chicken wings, another a spring roll-type goodie, another a stuffed tartlet, plus different chips and dips, and fruit – grapes, apples, kiwi.

Breakfast – wow!!! Every morning (7:30-9:30AM) they had scrambled eggs, grits, sausage gravy, toast and muffins. Then the other three days had different hot items – bacon or sausage or ham – with homemade biscuits or hash brown. There was also fresh fruit (slight different each day), three kinds of cereal, milk, and yogurt. Oh, coffee and juice, too. Add to this the friendliness of the server and the cook and you have the perfect start for your day.

You know, we expected good – but we got GREAT! We strong recommend The East Bay Inn.

This was the first trip to Savannah (May 27-31st) and I am glad we chose the East Bay Inn for our stay. I haven't stayed at a Bed and Breakfast but many reviews suggested staying at one of the many B&B's since they are all historic homes that are restored and have lots of charm and character. The room (Double Queen) was beautiful, well kept and perfect for our stay. Melvin the bellman helped us to our room and showed us all the features including telling us about the neighboring buildings history. Sheila at the front desk was helpful each day with restaurant suggestions, getting us bottles of water before we set out for the day and helping with parking, etc... The location is great. You can walk to all the things you want to see in the historic district with ease and are within a minute to the river and all the restaurants and shops on the river. The breakfast each morning was fine for us and we loved the turn down service/ice/chocolates each night. Should I stay in Savannah again- I would be happy to stay in the East Bay Inn again. The only thing that would make it perfect would be if there were parking at the hotel for all the guests (but that is a common problem for all the hotels in the historic district), and they were helpful with how to safely park your car if you couldn't get a parking spot at the hotel.

We went for a mini two day vacation since we live only a couple of hours away. My husband surprised me by picking the place to stay...which is a first for him, and he did a fantastic job! The room was spacious and comfortable, and had a beautiful exposed brick wall. The staff was so kind and welcoming - have to love that Southern hospitality! There was a wine social in the evening (although the way it's set up, it's not really conducive to being social, with separate tables, but it was still nice!) and a good breakfast in the morning. Our room had a journal that you could write in, and it was fun to read what prior guests wrote. I was happy to add in notes from our stay. We were able to walk everywhere. Didn't see any ghosts, but maybe next time :)

Room Tip: Corner rooms would have two brick walls, which I think is really cool. Front rooms face on the stree...
