Your first impression of the Westin is that it is a tale of two hotels- the lobby is redone very modern (no longer the plantation style show in traveler photos) but the rooms are still the older decor. Rooms are roomy, the beds are comfy and the river views and views of Savannah are great. The hotel is very much a resort compound which is different than every other hotel in Savannah. The pool area is great and a lot of fun. A building down the road houses the golf club, spa and gym.

As previously reported you do have to take a short ferry over to the historic district. It runs 3 times an hour until 11pm or midnight. It's a quick and easy trip but it does let you off at the waterfront and it could be a bit of a walk to where you want to go. In retrospect I definitely would have rented a car.

There are a lot of families at this location and the hotel is very family friendly- lots of kids in the pool, free family movie on demand at night, popcorn in the lobby. This is either great or not so great depending on what you're looking for. We were celebrating our anniversary and might have preferred a bit more privacy and quiet. Then again our room was right next to the elevator so that's to be expected. We were on the top floor (16th?). Even though this was the executive level, I don't think the rooms were any different and there was no concierge lounge. All in all a nice place for a getaway long weekend.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a work function over a Friday and Saturday night. The hotel sits directly on the river across from downtown Savannah. River views are fantastic and even the marsh/golf course views are nice. Room was nice but on the small side and a flat screen tv would be nice. The hotel has the Westin "Heavenly" beds and they are that. Very, very comfortable. The food was very good (had both room service and a work function dinner at the golf club) and reasonably priced for a resort. Golf course is outstanding. They even had fireworks over the river on Friday night. Boat shuttle across the river was very nice for visiting the more historic parts of Savannah.

  • Liked — Location, food and golf

Great for a meeting at Convention Center

We stayed here for a meeting and had a mixed experience - the room was great, which was better than other Westin properties I've stayed at. The beds were tough to get out of in the morning! We had a river view and could watch the boats go up and down. The staff were wonderful throughout our stay - we had a great experience at some restaurants that the concierge directed us to. There is lemonade in the lobby, which is great when returning from a jog or tennis, although it frequently runs out. The hotel brought us a refrigerator and microwave for our room at our request for no extra fee.

The (small) fitness center is located about 2-3 blocks away - not a big problem when you're looking for exercise, but not great in the rain that we had two days. The jogging route consists of an old race car track nearby - it feels very isolated when you're jogging alone at off hours, which kept me in the fitness center the rest of the time. We were unable to use the pool due to unseasonably cool temperatures during our 4-5 day stay. There were events posted in the lobby daily but we could not participate because of conflicts of the meeting we were attending.

The river taxi is free and runs often, but is a little bit of a hurdle when you have a limited amount of time to do some sightseeing.

  • Liked — The room and the helpful staff
  • Disliked — Distance to travel to fitness center, jogging route, tedious to use water taxi sometimes

Just returned from a first time stay while attending a convention next door at the Savannah Convention Center (absolutley the most convenient place to stay if you are attending an event there.) Was very pleased overall. Thought before arriving that I would get a room on the back of the hotel facing away from the river/city since I booked at convention rates (not really a bad view- looks over the marshlands...) Was plesantly surprised to get a river/ city view which was absolutely great at no additional charge! Also, when first booking several weeks ago I was told the room could only be assigned at check in. Really needed two beds so sent an email to their website asking for such. When checking in, the clerk stated "I see you need two beds", so evidently they read their email... not bad for a large property.
The hotel is well staffed. Check in was fast and and correct. Staff was friendly and attentive. Room was bright, clean, well furnished, plush beds. Small desk to work at, nice size side chair to put in front of the large window to watch the ships go by. Roomy enough bath, good in room coffee. Other than that, no freebies. Several dining options on site, good but pricy. Take the frequent (and free) water taxi over to the city for more food options. Small complaints: parking is free but lot can easily fill up when hotel is booked. Elevators seemed to be somewhat slow under demand. Kids were running about somewhat unsupervised, which is annoying at upscale hotels (not the hotel's fault, I suppose). Overall very pleased with the experience, but not sure I would pay $200 plus regular pricing to come back on my own time. Would likely pick a place on the city side of the river. Nothing wrong with the Westin, just my preference, as there is nothing else on the island but the hotel and convention center. Everything else is on the city side of the river....

This was our third stay at the Westin Savannah Harbor, and the best yet. The staff is so attentive: they open every door, welcome you back to the hotel, say hello and goodbye everytime you walk by - their friendliness makes the stay so much better.
We've been to Savannah a bazillion times, so we decided to enjoy the hotel ammenities this time. We hung out at the pool during the day, then watched the dive-in movie at night. We explored the gym and golf club and borrowed the new Wii for an hour of fun tennis as a family. We took the golf cart shuttle back and forth around the property and had the best conversations with Keith - he even let my 7-year-old sit up front with him.
A sign posted in the lobby each morning lists the events available to guests, and we loved reading the many options. It rained one day, and the sign was quickly changed to a list of rainy-day activities!
The pool is just the greatest, right on the Savannah River so you can watch the huge cargo ships go by as you're floating on your noodle. I love this hotel.
