“Friendly, Classic Westin Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

While the rooms and bath are classic Westin, this hotel is the warmest starwood I have experienced. The staff was genuinely friendly and made us feel very welcome. The rooms are standard Westin and while the resort fee is annoying (especially if you are using points), it did cover a wide range of services including the driving range at the golf club (bring appropriate clothes). If it wasn't freezing, the pool, hot tub and splash pad would have been very inviting. Ferry service was perfect for two days and somewhat delayed on the third. We would return.

We had planned to stay for 3 nights last week, but bad weather had us change to 1 night as a stop-over enroute to home. The golf course looked nice, but we did not have an opportunity to play due to rain.

They have tried to update the facility, and our room was nice but not exceptional. The water taxi was a plus and not crowded, as it was rainy. Most comments are accurate...food and bar overpriced, as to be expected at a resort and rooms and beds are good, as per Westin.

We had hoped to return and golf someday, but we are not sure anymore.

I stayed here with my wife when we were in town for the Savannah Marathon. We got our room on Priceline and were very happy with how it all worked out. We did not do "name your own price" but instead just selected the room location (river side) and bed size (king). Everything was provided to us just as listed on Priceline. The was a resort fee (~$20/day I think). I knew this and had included this in my calculations so I was not bothered by it at all. The price was still good even with the resort fee included.
We ate at the hotel restaurant for breakfast and it was very pricey but the Priceline deal included $50 resort credit which cover the breakfast.
The location is across the river from the old downtown. It is a pain taking the ferry across but it is free and if you have a riverside view you can time your departure from your room to when the ferry arrives by looking out your window,

Room Tip: Rooms on the river side may have to contend with boat noise. The first night a freighter let off a...

This is a nice hotel with average rooms and good restaurant but overpriced as on site dining can be. The location across the river from the city is good for conferences and larger meetings since there are good facilities for that. The water taxi is nice but just enough of an inconvenience that we did not go across to the city as much as we had planned.

River view rooms were nice to watch shipping traffic go by.

I went their to cheer on close friends for the Rock and roll marathon. They flew in from
New Orleans. Rooms were comfy. There was a gap for breakfast on Sunday due to brunch prep. So no food for breakfast at certain times, painful for our runner. they ordered mediocre room service instead. Nice hotel, especially for savannah, lounge, pool and good service. The over the river location was isolating. A trek for food, drinks, etc outside hotel. Stay at the Mansion or the Bohemian instead.
PS. They booked me for 2 rooms instead of one. Computer glitch. It took me three weeks to fix this and I am still waiting for a credit to my account. I called three times, no return call. I had to keep calling for a response. I have a conference at Westin Chicago in January and am looking forward to my week long stay there. As a rewards member, I know Chicago westin is much more sophisticated and look forward to top notch service, sushi and cocktails in the lounge, and better customer service.
Will not stay there again. Mansion on Forsyth is so much better. Valet anywhere in downtown savannah for free, great Spa, beautiful rooms.

This hotel was fabulous. We happened to find this hotel by mistake and we are so glad we did. The location was great because we were able to catch the free ferries and water taxis across the river to historic Savannah. It was convenient, the staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, the hotel was beautiful, and the view across the river was even better. Great hotel for family or romantic visits either one.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river.

Savannah is a beautiful and historic city, but also is "fashionably seedy", and in some cases well worn. Just a short hop across the river, the Westin is a manicured resort reminiscent of Florida's high end manicured hotels. It sits on the Savannah River offering an excellent view of the river front city without the grunge of being right there. Even better, there is a free ferry that can have you walking River Street in less than five minutes. Sitting on the patio by the river when a freighter comes by is awesome.

Rooms are large and well appointed, as are the bathrooms. Beds are very comfortable. The large flat screen sits on a dresser that also boasts an elaborate multimedia input panel (HDMI, USB, Component inputs), and my favorite: plugs everywhere, even a powered USB port. Geek city. Unfortunately, this capable TV is not hooked to a digital source so the stations available look pretty bad. This extends to sports as Monday night football was not available since the channel isn't available. The remote didn't work but you're not going to spend much time in the room anyway.

Guests have access to the fitness center in the golf club. It's very good, but a 5 minute walk or car ride away. That's okay in nice weather, but can be a deterrent to going. Also, there is nothing on the island except the Westin, the convention center next door, and the associated golf course. You'll have to take the ferry or drive to do anything else.

There is a nice restaurant and a small bar/lounge area. There are several meeting rooms with the connecting halls and lobby very comfortably and attractively decorated. It's easy to feel at home here. The first floor has a number of comfortable sitting areas.

Epic Fail: I was on the 14th floor leaving at 8 am to catch a flight home. After a lengthy wait and no elevator, I called the front desk to find that all four elevators were under repair with no estimated time to complete. I'm 61, fortunately in good shape, but carrying two healthy suitcases down 14 flights of steps pretty much ended the joy of the stay. Like many higher end properties, the staffs are not trained in how to handle non routine problems. Surely they could have left messages on their phone system to alert guests. This would have eliminated the needless wait wondering when the elevator was coming. When on a schedule, this matters.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have windows on two sides. The area offers great views in higher rooms. Rooms on the e...
