A difficult hotel to rate because our experience varied from a 5+ to a 3-. First, the good things. Chris, our valet was wonderful and truly made us feel welcome. (The servers and bussers at Rocks on the Roof could learn a few customer service lessons from him!) Our check-in was also very customer focused, everything about our stay was clearly explained. We were on the top floor with a historical view, but she offered us a river view with two queens. I believe that she would have done anything to make our stay wonderful, and we were both very pleased.
The Bohemian is in a great location right in the historic district and very easy to get to. The hotel is gorgeous and the room was very welcoming – nice music and lighting, beautiful furnishings and art work, and for the most part, pretty quiet. (We could hear the music from Rocks on the Roof, as well as people talking in the hall.) My husband is Marriott platinum, so we were also provided with a bottle of wine and a cheese plate. With only 75 rooms, the hotel is small and comfortable and we visited with several guests. Our first night was a total 5-star experience, and very restful.
We had two issues with the hotel. The first was Rocks on the Roof, which I didn’t factor into my rating of the hotel room. We went up for drinks (which were very good!) but there was a broken glass on the floor that I tripped on, and then when we were served, my husband had a chipped glass. We ordered an appetizer, and I was given a dirty plate and a dirty fork – seriously, food that was lodged between the tines of the forks touching both sides…gross. The waitress apologized, but in such a way it was pretty evident that she didn’t really care (like oh, just some more complainers). Nothing was done to fix the situation. When she found out that we were staying at the hotel (when we were paying our bill), she did seem to be more concerned and helpful. We had planned on spending the evening there, but because of cleanliness concerns, we would to another restaurant in Savannah. Our waitress offered us several dinner alternatives.
The second problem which was really frustrating was the cold shower. After an evening out, I wanted to take a shower before bed and I got in, but the water was only warm and quickly turned cold. Trying to make a fast exit, I found out that housekeeping had failed to provide us with any towels! (This the 3-star – rating). Luckily, the room had robes that I was able to use for towels. I called the desk, and we had towels and an engineer to our room within 10 minutes. The engineer said the water was “recycling” and would be hot tomorrow morning. Housekeeping apologized and brought a large stack of towels. Because of the quick response, I decided to give the hotel a four. Very sad that such a wonderful hotel would have customer service issues in two areas, because this is a fantastic hotel and probably with a little more training or maybe management oversight (e.g., housekeeping supervisor audit of the rooms), every guest can have a 5+ experience.
