“Great hotel in downtown Savannah”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

We had a very nice 2-night stay at this hotel on the edge of the downtown historic district. It is a clean and welcoming hotel with a generally upbeat and friendly staff.

The rooms are laid out in a very unique and modern way - so that is to say the place is surely contemporary - but it does not go so far to make you feel like you are living in a space station on the moon in 2065. It is contemporary in a natural and smart way.

The location is great, and you can really walk to anywhere in downtown Savannah you please. If you are taking any kind of tour during your stay here, you can conveniently get to a trolley stop location to begin on your journey.

Hotel was a nice central location in the historic district. Not right in the bustle of things, so it was quieter. Walking into the lobby there was a very nice smell to the place. Hallways were air conditioned, so there wasn't that musty smell that will sometimes be in hallways that are hotter than interior rooms. Modern room with really comfortable beds and pillows. Appeared to be very clean. There was a rather large stain on the floor, probably soda spill from prior lodgers.

However, in the morning, the whole hotel had a subtle sewer smell. The 5th floor hallway is where I first noticed it - the floor we were on. The lobby wasn't as bad, but it certainly didn't have the nice smell from the night before. When we left, the outside actually smelled like this, so maybe it was just the air from outside causing the smell indoors.

The only bad thing is that the parking fee for one night was $20. Not sure if this is a nightly charge or a per stay charge. Either way, that is pretty steep just to park your car. Had I known this ahead of time, we would have drove around and parked on the street. Parking is free on the weekends.

Thank you for your review. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the location of the property. We do also apologize for the smell you experienced. There are several plants in and around the Savannah area that do occasionally omit an unpleasant odor. While we try to ensure this does not get into the hotel, it will occasionally happen. Fortunately it does not happen very often.

We also apologize that our staff did not make you aware of the additional parking options. The hotel offers our guests valet parking for convenience and security, but guests are welcome to park on the metered streets or the public parking lots. We have alerted our Valet Manager of your experience.

Thank you again for your review and we look forward to hosting you at the SpringHill Suites Savannah Historic District again soon.

We stayed one night, Monday 5/20, on our way home to Florida from North Carolina. The room was very clean - love the european decor. The king size bed was so comfortable - like sleeping on a cloud. The front desk staff and valet parking staff were very friendly & helpful. The complimentary hot breakfast was more than we expected - scrambled eggs, canadian bacon, oatmeal with raisins, walnuts & brown sugar, grits, fresh fruit salad, bananas, oranges, yogurt, milk, bagels, english muffins, muffins, coffee & tea - oh my ! Had a lovely dinner on the riverfront then strolled around the City Walk on the way back to the hotel. The next morning we did the Old Town Trolley Tour - great fun, beautiful day - before heading home. I highly recommend this hotel - perfect location if you want to spend time in the downtown Historic District of Savannah.

Really enjoyed our stay here. The room was large with a separate lounge area, so it felt like a little apartment. Well positioned to walk to everything and enjoy all the beautiful squares and homes. Breakfast is included and coffee and tea always were available in the lobby. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.

My husband and I stayed here for only 1 night but wished we would've stayed more!!! This place was absolutely perfect!! We stayed here on Sat. 5/18 to Sun. 5/19 for our 6th wedding anniversary. Friendly staff from the time we checked in until the time we checked out. Valet parking staff also very friendly and accommodating. The room is a very modern style room with bright colors making the room feel so spacious and inviting. Not your usual dull colored hotel room. The toilet is separate from the shower and both are nice sized rooms. The toilet has its own little modern style sink in the corner and the shower room has a nice double shower with the nicest shower door and modern style mirror. The bed was absolute heaven!! Pillows everywhere! We slept so well in that bed that we sure missed it when we got home to our own bed! We meant to look and see what the mattress was but forgot to. I am sure it was a memory foam type mattress the way it hugged your body. We just can't say enough nice things about our stay at this hotel. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast the next morning that also included several choices of coffee, liquid creamers (not your usual cheap kind you see in a restaurant, the nice International Delight kind that I actually use which impressed me). Everybody we encountered (guests included) were very nice. We had no complaints whatsoever and are anxious to get back to this place someday soon!! The only complaint we may have had is that we actually didn't spend ENOUGH time in the room. ha ha! We actually spent a lot of time walking around Savannah shopping and doing other things we had planned and didn't make it back to the room until late that night. Highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Savannah downtown district!!!

We just love when our guests have an excellent stay with us. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us and other travelers. I wanted to let you know that I've confirmed with our housekeeping department that the beds in our guest rooms are Simmons Beauty Rest beds.

We look forward to having you and your husband back with us again soon. Congrats on your 6th wedding anniversary!

You just can't go wrong with choosing this location for SpringHill Suites. Cory, the valet, greeted me with a smile when I drove up and helped me with my luggage. The front desk staff was friendly and polite. The room was better than expected (but an odd layout with the bathroom side by side.) It was a bit noisy but nothing that interfered with sleep. It was very clean. I was helped by the concierge, Austin Chambliss. What an asset to the hotel is this gentleman. He help me with a tour as well as explained the layout of the area for easy and safe walking. My only disappointment was the pitiful display of breakfast. The eggs were cold (and sparce) and they were all out of meats. No one was attending the food bar. It was a confusing layout for getting your food so people were all over trying to get their breakfast. I gave up and went to Henry's (a very good breakfast within walking distance.) All in all I'd stay again but I'd enjoy my breakfast in one of the local establishments.

Great location, only a few blocks from City Market area. Newer SpringHill Suite, with separate shower and toilet rooms & fans in both. Spacious room. Typical breakfast included and was OK. Staff is friendly and helpful. Most of the tours will come to this hotel for pick up. Very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Corner King suite on the first floor is great and roomy. You can raise the shades and both windows...
