“Learned a lot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

This was an excellent opportunity to learn about the civil rights movement that took place in Savannah. I would recommend this to everyone. It talks about the sit-ins, boycotting of local stores, and how African Americans were able to learn a trade and earn money to buy their freedom. The cost was minimal for this exhibit. It is not a large facility but what you learn is worth a visit.

“Small but interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

This museum is a couple blocks off Forsyth Park. We enjoyed our visit. I particularly liked the short movie with its oral histories of Savannah's civil rights fights.

“Needs work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

We visited as part of the Freedom Trail Tour. The museum provides a lot of information about Savannah's civil rights and its pioneers. There is a lengthy video of interviews with some of those involved which is shown in theatre set up in a "church" (a nice touch). Something was wrong with the sound equipment and it was nearly impossible to hear which was too bad.

“Important Learning Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

Charmed by the mystique of Savannah? Be aware that behind the Spanish Moss is a long history not always pleasant. A visit to the Gilbert CR Museum will provide the facts on a side of Savannah history that many visitors never experience, but certainly should. The exhibits are well done and extremely interesting. Just wish there were more. A"must do" for a well-rounded Savannah trip.

“Interesting and moving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

I loved this little museum. It is small but very well organized and presented, and you learn a lot from your experience there. Most of the exhibits are interactive and engaging for adults and children alike. Very moving at times, I was moved to tears at some of the graphic depictions of the mistakes of the past. Definitely worth a visit.
