“Beautiful B&B!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

We stayed in the Garden Room of the Spanish Moss Inn this past weekend as a graduation celebration trip and loved it! It is in an ideal location-just a short walk across the street to River Street and around the corner from the Pirate's House restaurant, as well as all the squares. Evie was always helpful in booking tours, etc. The afternoon hors d'oeuvres were fabulous and we looked forward to them every day. The Garden Room was excellent as it has its own separate entrance. Savannah was hot and humid during our weekend there, and it was always so nice to come into the coolness that the Garden Room had to offer. The breakfast at B.Matthews was also excellent, and is a very short walk from the B&B. This was my first visit to Savannah and my first stay at a B&B. The Spanish Moss Inn set the bar very high and we will stay there again, given the oppurtunity to visit this beautiful city :-)

Room Tip: The Garden Room has its own separate entrance and feels private.

We first stayed at the Spanish Moss in Feb. and liked it so much we decided to spend our anniversary there in May. We have been going to Savannah since 1980 and the Inn is the best place we have stayed. It is clean, the owners and staff are great, and it is in a great location right across Bay Street from the action on River Street. We have stayed in two different rooms one on the second floor and one in the basement, both were very nice. Sam, the owner, was there every enening and was great to talk to. We are planing to go back next March.

Room Tip: The two rooms on the lower level are a little more quiet.

The Spanish Moss Inn was absolutely wonderful!! We stayed for one night in May and it exceeded our expectations. They offered very reasonable rates and friendly fast service. Sam was very helpful and made sure that we were comfortable. The entire house is decorated to perfection, and it is one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed at! The Spanish Moss Inn is very close to all of the Savannah shopping and to one of our favorite restaurants Vic's On The River on Bay Street; among many others. All of the rooms were furnished with luxurious furniture and extremely comfortable beds. They also had wine, cheese and fruit when we first arrived and also provided tea and coffee in the morning.
They did not serve breakfast at the house but provided us with vouchers for a free meal for each guest at B Matthews which had amazing food and friendly service! We loved drinking our coffee in the morning on the patio and listening to the fountains and seeing all of the beautiful flowers that were blooming. The sun room was amazing and so was the rest of the house. I would highly recommend anybody coming to Savannah to stay at this bed and breakfast! We are going to rent this for our wedding next year and are counting the days until we can come back again. Thank you so much Sam and family, it was a fabulous stay and we look forward to seeing you all next year!

Room Tip: The basement suite is gorgeous, but all of the rooms are wonderful!!

As previous reviewers have said, the Spanish Moss Inn is an elegant, peaceful retreat from the busy streets of Savannah. Sam was a helpful host who welcomed us, but also gave us space to come and go. It was helpful to have a parking space and not at all a problem to walk one block for a very good breakfast at a nearby restaurant. The Aqua Room was gorgeous, spacious and with the attached closet area and bath, much like a small suite. We enjoyed the wine and cheese and crackers on the sunny porch.... all delightful. Would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: The Aqua Room has its own bath and is beautiful...

We stayed in the Garden Room.

Pros-
- Room is truly gorgeous, with exposed brick walls and a wood burning fireplace. It's also huge. Has a separate entry so it feels like your own space.
- Location is great. Easy access to the river and historic district.
- Parking available in the garage. You will have to leave your keys so they can move yor car if needed.
- Caretakers were very friendly and hospitable.
- Really comfy bed.

Cons:
- There is currently no cook, so they provide for free breakfast at B. Matthews restaurant which is one block away. The food was not great there, and it was a bit inconvenient to go out for breakfast.
- Bathroom was down a hallway from the room, which also has the laundry area that is used by housekeeping. It is very tiny as well. This was a bit odd and inconvenient.
- Room was adjoining to the caretakers' room. We could hear a lot of noise from them well into the night- tv, conversations, etc.

Thank you for staying with us at the Spanish Moss Inn. We appreciate your feed back, and would like to take this time to share some of our future plans for the Garden room.

As always, the Garden room is a private space and strictly for the use of the guest. Private space includes the bedroom, adjoining reading and/or t.v. room, the private hallway, and the bathroom. There is a short private hallway (not communal) only 6 steps in length, and is part of what is commonly known, in Savannah, as a garden apartment. Most historical homes in Savannah have a garden apartment.

We are planning to redesign and expand the bathroom for the Garden room. Thus creating a master bathroom with separate shower, toilet, vanity and a large bathtub.

Adjacent to the bathroom, you walk past a very small separate area with a washer and dryer. Neither of those are in view, but are behind tall wooden decorative dividers painted with an antique floral design. We purchased these panels to close off a very small area, and add an artistic painted feature to the room. The washer and dryer are not in use, and we plan to remove them.

We apologize for any noise you heard from the guest room next door, and we will take care to minimize the transferrence of noise from guest room to guest room. We truely wish to create a quieter environment per room thus we will work on this.

The caretakers do not live next door to this room, but the owners are there every morning and evening on weekdays and throughout the day on weekends.

Breakfast is served at the cafe next door to us which is just a few steps down our short block. Of course, we are always happy to listen to guest feed back during a stay and provide an alternative breakfast if necessary. This option is also available in advance.

It is good to know that the location of the house, beauty of the room, and the King sized bed were comfortable and relaxing for the both of you. Again, thank you for writing. We wish you safe travels.

this place is lovely - it is filled with antiques, really pretty, and it is a great location.
Base on the review below, we asked to be in the garden room. It is a stunning room, and big. The issue we had was two-fold:
- you have to take a communal corridor to get to the bathroom, which is tiny and behind the laundry room. It's not necessarily as bad as it sounds as only the cleaning lady really uses that corridor, but it's not annoying when you need have to go to the toilets in the middle of the night and you need the keys to get there. Also, it is really small and basic when the bedroom is so luxurious, I just don't get it.
- there is a communication door with what I think is the part of the house where the owners live. It is blocked by the (beautiful) wardrobe, but we could hear their phone conversations (at 10pm), and general noise, which frankly we could have done without

Another oddity was that we never saw the owner. Never. We saw the cleaning lady, who was lovely.

There is no breakfast provided, but it turned out quite well. They have an agreement with a fantastic place just around the corner, best b'fast in town apparently, which meant we could order what we wanted rather than whatever the hosts decided to cook.
The inn provides wine and cheese in their lovely livingroom every day, good quality, and as much as you want, which was a nice touch.

We stayed in the Garden Room for three nights. The room and the whole Inn exceeded our expectations. The online photos do not do it justice. The Garden room was a huge sun-lit room , beautifully furnished with a very comfortable king size four-poster bed with a canopy and carved headboard, brick fireplace, and high-quality furniture. It is very quiet and private.
The bathroom is fairly small, and down a little hallway, but that only made it feel like we had a little apartment all to ourselves, with a separate entrance.
The whole Inn is very tastefully and elegantly decorated.
We enjoyed meeting Sam and Elena, and loved our housekeeper Rosie, who was extremely warm, sweet and helpful.
During our stay we ate breakfast at Huey's, which served delicious breakfasts, all included in the price of the stay.
We have stayed in many B & Bs before, but this Inn is indeed very special.

Room Tip: The Garden is huge, super quiet, has its own entry from the courtyard.
