“Classy and romantic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

We stay there a couple years ago on our way back from Myrtle Beach and it was their grand opening weekend or something like that. Sometime in March, so it was cold. So we got a king suite overlooking the courtyard and it was super nice. The price was pretty high, but it was last minute and we needed somewhere to stay for a couple nights, so we went ahead and booked it. And in comparison to most hotels the price was about the same. And I felt very safe, you had to have a key card even to enter the elevator. We spent one evening after dinner out in the courtyard by the fire pit. We took a bottle of wine down and just chilled out, it was very nice. Location wise it was perfect, you can walk to everything and so you didn't need your car. Valet parking was like $10.00 per day or something like that. We didn't eat in the restaurant down there, so I am not sure about that. Very friendly and helpful staff, super clean and just classy.

Room Tip: Very nice and romantic

My husband and I stayed here for a pre Christmas trip. I was awarded this hotel when I bid on Priceline. The hotel was very classy and elegant and very tastefully decorated. The staff was also very eager to please and extremely friendly. My only complaint was that the room seemed a little small and there was no bathtub. Other than those two minor things, you cannot go wrong by staying there. If we ever return to Savannah, will be staying at this location!

The place is nice. The service is great. The food is way above average.
Some tips
1) the rooms look bigger in the pictures but they are still very nice.
2) Triple A membership got us a cheaper rate per night and an included breakfast. Since breakfast is $18 per person, this is significant.
3) parking - if you choose not to valet, they will direct you to park in the Whittaker parking garage. Once inside, If you park near the Ellis Square elevator, you will be steps from the hotel entrance.
4)Parking pass - before you have exceeded 48 hours, walk down to the visitor center on East Liberty and MLK Jr Blvd and buy a 48 hour parking pass for $12 . Present this pass instead of paying $32 for 2 days. You can also buy a one day pass for $7. This pass will allow you to park in some other places around Savannah as well. You can only buy one pass at a time so if you're staying longer than two days you will have to get your car out and back in in order to take advantage of this great discount for Savannah visitors.
5) The visitor center is a great first stop if you're in need of a map and some good ideas. We like to walk around and not be part of a tour and we got lots of helpful information from the visitor center.

6) we stayed in the deluxe loft and aside from what is mentioned in room description,
The studio kitchen included a toaster, a standing fridge with freezer, microwave, dishwasher, mini stove with 2 burners, coffee maker. Plates, glasses, mugs, utensils, bottle opener, corkscrew. Some mixing bowls and pots

7) there was also hdmi input in the TV in case you were hoping to watch TV from your online Netflix account. The wifi operated well also.

8) The bathroom offered really lovely soap and lotion and shampoo but no toothpaste like I normally see at my usual Hyatt where I stay for business. I am in agreement with other reviewers that aren't crazy about no door on the shower. Nor was I crazy about the frosted door of the bathroom itself which is right beside the bed and allows all the light through.

9) our room above the courtyard was nice. The fire pit and pool area are nice views at night from our little balcony. They also look like a great place to finish the evening. The only downside we found to that side of the hotel was the dumpster pickup early in the morning.

10) If you do the Web check-in and you get an email stating that your room is ready before 4pm don't bet on it.

Overall we liked this place and its location and the people. We would stay there again.

My husband and I visited for one night so that we could use parts of two days to explore Savannah.

Pros of the Andaz:
- easy parking if you don't mind the $23/day for valet
- friendly, helpful staff. Easy check-in via tablets, dinner suggestions made, help offered.
- upscale room, fine size for a downtown room. Nice view of city square.
- convenient location for walking around any part of historic Savannah.
- bed and pillows comfortable
- snacks and non-alcoholic drinks included in room

Con:
- bathroom shower a little on the smaller side, and no curtain or door to keep the heat in while you are showering. This is a huge turnoff to us as there is no chance to enjoy one's shower! All you are trying to do is keep from freezing.

Just because of the shower, I would at least consider another hotel next time. If the price of the Andaz was right, I'd go back.

Definitely not four star, although the "Staycation" rate (available for residents of GA, FL, NC and SC) was reasonable. Loud thumping music greets you from the sidewalk outside and gets louder as you enter the lobby, which is minimalist modern with the acoustics of a gymnasium. The front desk is a low table with one computer. Each "host" is a self-proclaimed concierge roaming the lobby armed with an iPad, some of which cause delays while they power up. Doormen sometimes were distracted by friends (?) who gather around the entrance blocking the was. The staff is very friendly and try almost too hard, sometimes answering the question they think should have been asked. They need to calm down and dial ti back a couple of notches. Good at remembering names, but not really knowledgeable about the area. Melinda was a notable exception; ask for her. The northern historic district location is excellent until bedtime, when the music from the adfacent City Market was disturbing. The dining room is likewise noisy, with the clatter of china added to the loud piped-in irksome music. I had to call for housekeeping to make up my room around 5:30 one afternoon. The room itself was fine, except that water pressure in the bathroom sink was low. Non-alcoholic minibar items are complimentary, which is nice. Housekeeping left the refrigerator door wide open one day, so drinks got warm.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from Bryan Street (view of brick wall) and away from Ellis Square (noise at nigh...

Rooms are the same, lovely and comfortable. We've stayed here twice before and enjoyed the unique menu in the restaurant. Fortunately the chef (Lauren) is still here. This morning at breakfast I had a sweet potato, parsnip, spinach and radish salad, along with fresh fruit and scone! Last night husband had oyster etoufee (spicy) and I had chicken breast with hen of the woods mushroom risotto and beets.
They focus on "local" produce and food. Be ready for different in a good way. It's not the typical holiday inn or hampton inn breakfast.
Much of the staff is still here, good as they are well trained and on top of everything.

Room Tip: We got a small suite for a little more cost. It's nice to have seating.
