We liked this Inn so much that we returned several times in one visit!! We had the unique opportunity to stay at this Inn for 5 nights spread out over a 7 night stay in Savannah. Long story but due to availability problems we had to stay at two other Inns but on both occasions couldn't wait to get back to the Ballastone. The Inn itself is charming and couldn't be better placed for convenience of not only the Historic District but just about anywhere or anything you may want to go see or do whilst in Savannah. The rooms are individually decorated in the traditional style but will all modern conveniences.....including well equipped bathrooms with hairdryers and comfy robes. This Inn has the added benefit of a bar which only serves beer and wine but is a real bonus when you return from a day of sighseeing and fancy a fine glass of wine with your evening hors d'oeuvres. There is a relaxed vibe about this Inn that we didn't find in any other that we stayed at. Jennifer the owner has a firm grasp of what it takes to make not only her guests happy but also her staff. They genuinely appear to enjoy their work there. Melissa is a charming, gracious lady who seems to be able to effortlessly deal with any request, demand or problem you may have. We stayed in the Peach Leather room which is on the 3rd floor and at the back of the Inn - medium sized room with an ample sized bathroom and very quiet. Also stayed in Scarlett's Retreat which is a smaller room but with a much larger bathroom area and a full sized bubbly bath - situated on the 3rd floor but at the front of the Inn this room is subject to some noise but during the night was quieter than expected - only criticism would be that the mattress could do with being renewed as it tended to sag towards the middle and there were no bedside tables so some furniture rearranging was necessary. Our final night was spent in the Palmetto Fan room on the 3rd floor in the centre of the Inn overlooking the courtyard - a lovely large room with a huge comfy bed and very quiet with only the sound of the courtyard fountain.....bliss. The breakfasts are superb with a varied "chef's special" every day and a relaxed, laid back approach to times.....you can pre-book a time and select a table or just turn up, sit and eat! As mentioned, we stayed at two other Inns one of which was the Hamilton Turner which is supposed to be "The Premier Inn of Savannah" but we didn't like it. Stuffy and "sticky" and run under strict timings, rules and regulations with the owners quite literally breathing down your neck all the time. The Ballastone for us was the perfect place and we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for that good old fashioned Southern charm and hospitality....quite simply, the icing on the cake of a magical time in Savannah.

Room Tip: Other reviewers have recommended rooms on higher floors and toward the back of the Inn for quietness...

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay for four days. From the room to the breakfasts to the tea to the cocktail hour - it was all so well done. But most enjoyable was the friendly, helpful, accommodating staff. Owner Jennifer clearly understands the nature of the service industry and has trained her staff well.
I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Savannah than the Ballastone. Book a room!
You can walk just about everywhere you might want to go, except for the B-17 museum outside of town!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter; those on the ground floor are less expensive.

We loved our two nights at the Ballastone Inn, in the Mary Musgrove room. The inn was beautiful, historic, in a great location, and gave so many extras. We had delicious breakfasts, afternoon tea and goodies at 4:00, then at 6:00, wine or beer (for a cost) and light appetizers. The common rooms were so cozy, we enjoyed our time there eating the good food and visiting with the other guests. We definitely would recommend the Ballastone Inn!

Room Tip: We enjoyed our 4th floor Mary Musgrove room. Very quiet, since it is at the back of the inn, away f...

We just returned from a 4 day trip to Savannah where we had the pleasure of staying at The Ballestone Inn. What a wonderful refined and gentile environment to emerse oneself in luxury! The rooms were spacious and beautifully appointed. The staff are attentive to every need. The breakfast is superb. Tea and cocktail hour provided a relaxed time to rest from a day of exploring Savannah. We hope to return again to enjoy the beauty of this remarkable Inn.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the Inn as well as those in the center area would probably be quieter than the...

We stayed at the Ballastone Inn to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed it! Each member of the staff was friendly and so eager to help in every way. One staff member went out of her way to finalize the details for an impromptu evening carriage ride. Every nook and cranny in the inn was so tastefully decorated and inviting. Afternoon tea was a delight. Evening turn-down service, comfy robes, and decadent chocolates made us feel special. The breakfast was absolutely delicious! A one-night stay just wasn't long enough.

Room Tip: Even though the Low Country room was street level, it was quiet and cozy.

In researching for our first trip to Savannah, I read the reviews and I could not decide easily on a hotel. In the end the hotel's website won me over. While not as good as depicted on the web, what leads us to rate the hotel as less than the top is primarily NOISE. Not noise in the hotel, but from the street. I booked a larger more expensive room which happened to face VERY busy Ogelthorpe Ave., one of the city's main streets. Even with ear plugs and sleep aids, neither my wife or I got a good night's sleep on our two night stay. I thought the buses were coming right through the room. Be careful on room selection.
Now the hotel, or rather B&B. That is important. A real B&B and all that goes with that. Do not expect hotel service. Very little staff on hand, maybe two and they are busy. Expect SlowVannah in action. So gear down and relax. Enjoy friendly service from college kids working their way through school in a wonderfully appointed period B&B. The owner was never in sight, which tends to be the case in most B&B situations. Part of the "charm" of a B&B is having the owner/operator involved. What Paul Dean did for Southern food, Ballastone did for B&B's in Savannah. They both created a market. The difference is Paula invested and went full tourist mode and Ballastone stood still. Much of standing still is good, but other hotels and B&B's have come on and while there we looked at those and feel they have put themselves ahead. Despite the noise, the location is terrific. You can walk to most sights, and the river attractions. Rare on site parking, no valet though. Food is plentiful, but average at best. The place grows on you after a while, but for the price you would expect more and you can get it at other hotels. Bathrooms are small and in need of redoing.

Room Tip: I am not sure there is a quite room, but get away from the street.
