“Unique history by committed docent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

This historical gem appeared along our historical walk of Savannah. As we walked through the door we were fortunately at the beginning of a tour.

The docent was a proud committed member of the congregation and the historical tour exceptional. This Jewish community was one of the first in America. It's members were leaders in the founding of America and the continuation of the Jewish faith in The United States from 1733.

The tour of the worship sanctuary and the historical museum with three centuries of Savannah's and America's Jewish history is not to be missed.

“beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

I was amazed that this is the oldest synagogue still open in the country. We did the tour and the man was very nice. The museum on the second floor was so interesting!

“Jewish Savannah”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

We took a tour of the synagogue and learned about Jewish roots in the old South. The stained glass was worth seeing. The synagogue itself was fairly non -descript but the tour made it worthwhile. The library upstairs was filled with interesting bits of history.

“A Beautiful Historic Synagogue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

The Synagogue is breath-taking and the tour was fantastic. I stayed for services the evening I visited and was also welcomed by all the congregants there. I definitely recommend visiting the synagogue to anyone interested in American Jewry and our history.

“Jewish perspective on Savannah history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

The building is amazing-it looks like a church. The docent was excellent-she provided a lot of information and knew a lot about the local history and how the Jewish population fit in. There is a small museum full of interesting items.
