Owner description: The Massie Heritage Center should be your first stop in Georgia's first city! Massie provides the best orientation for your visit with a 3D model of Savannah's entire Historic District, including three laser-lit narratives of the city's history projected onto the model. Massie's six exhibit rooms inside the historic 1856 Greek Revival school house offers visitors the unique opportunity to learn about Savannah's many architectural styles, the earliest inhabitants of the Georgia coast, the historic preservation movement in the city, and what school was like in the 1800s inside our authentic heritage classroom. We are located on beautiful Calhoun Square, Savannah's only architecturally original square, at the corner of Abercorn and Gordon streets. We look forward to seeing you!

“Something for everyone-preservation, historical context”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

Husband and I took this tour as part of a package we had purchased upon our stop at the visitor center. This place was very informative. I particularly liked the film on preservation, as well as the stained glass window panels, etc. The sections are the various types of architecture were also interesting.

Although we are not teachers, we did enjoy observing the retired school teachers who were taking pictures of themselves in the restored classroom. They were at the chalkboard and at the desks. it was obvious that they were having a great time!

The staff are very pleasant, and made sure that we saw everything this tour had to offer. I found the wooden Savannah very useful in getting a better feel for the city. This display is illuminated-as they talk about the various squares, that section becomes illuminated, which provided a visual backdrop. It also lighted the area of the city that suffered the great fire, etc.

I would definitely recommend this tour-there is something for everybody.

“wonderful old schoolroom”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

an interesting place to visit with such a charming old schoolroom! put on a costume or a dunce cap, sit in the old schoolhouse seats and take an actual exam from years ago (guarantee you'll fail!).

“As stated, it is a great first stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

If you love history, architecture, or both, you will love the Massie Center. It gives a great overview of the settling of Savannah, but more important, the design of the city. In addition, it gives great definitions and examples of the styles of architecture found throughout the city. You also get a great glimpse into the early days when it served as a school. Overall, it helps you see the city with a better appreciation.

“Massie Heritage Center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

I didn't think this looked very cool when I first saw it on trip advisor, but made my family give it a try. I actually enjoyed it a lot! It was pretty informative and interesting and it was interactive and a really cool classroom upstairs! It wasn't too expensive and only took about 30ish minutes to do. Overall, I enjoyed it!
