“Awesome!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2014 NEW

If you're into historical cemeteries this is the one for you. They have all sorts of headstones a Date Way, Wayback and I also learned something on this trip but not all the headstones are original to their original placement. Pretty awesome for city to have history this rich.

“Very Historic ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2014

If you know your history, this is a must visit. Many famous people who had part in creating our nation are buried here. I was immediately taken aback reading signs, especially the one explaining that over 700 people passed & were buried there including the local doctor caring for them because of a flu like sickness one winter. A lot of family plots from the 1700's jolted me as I somberly read the weathered words on gravestones. I highly recommend visiting.

“Creepy, beautiful, and cool!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2014

We visited at around 5pm as the sun was setting, so it was half dark out. Perfect setting for a stroll through this cemetery if you want to creep yourself out.

There are tons of old, original preserved tomb stones, but there are some that you can tell unfortunately didn't make it. Regardless, from what we were told, there are thousands of bodies buried underneath everywhere you walk.

We could have sworn we heard screaming from afar, but that could have definitely been coming from somewhere else. Regardless, it's half the fun to scare yourself while walking through the cemetery :)

“Interesting place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2014

I found Colonial Park Cemetery to be a lovely place to stroll through. I didn't find it to be in a state of disrepair as some others have posted. Of course many of the stones are in a state of deterioration but that is to be expected. The grounds were nicely maintained. There are a few notable people laid to rest here and they have signage explaining who they are.

There is some interesting history here in that Sherman's soldier's used it the cemetery as a place to sleep during the Civil War. They moved many of the stones around and "modified" others which is why, as another posted mentioned, there us a 13 year old boy with a 17 year old wife and 13 year old child...Many victims of the Yellow Fever outbreak in the late 1800's are also buried here.

A Cemetery from the Confederate times tuned into a park at a later time. Many famous people buried there.
