“Historic Stroll”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

We learned a good bit about the cemetery from a local historian. *Spoiler alert* Rumored that no matter where you step in the cemetery and potentially beyond, someone is buried there. Not only are the grave sites and monuments beautiful to look at, the trees and landscaping are also beautiful. Gates are locked at sundown. You may find something interesting in your night-time pictures...we did.

“Great historic cemetery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

We toured the cemetery during part of one day on our visit. It has a great deal of historic significance to Savannah and American history. The General Lachlan MacIntosh grave site among others is worth seeing for Revolutionary War history. That being said we went during the PM part of the day making the tour somewhat uncomfortable so may I suggest and AM or late PM time (if open) or a more pleasant time of the year than Savannah in late May or early June. Otherwise this is a highly recommended historic addition to your Savannah visit!

“OK to stroll through if it's on your itinerary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

Cononial Park Cemetery is a pleasant walk off East Oglethorpe Avenue. Nothing special. I don't recommend going out of your way to see it.

“Peaceful walk through history...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

This park/cemetery allows visitors to walk through a shaded area preserved very nicely with informative markers. Close to other downtown attractions, it's worth visiting to take a break from the Georgia heat and learn about some of Savannah's founding leaders, laid to rest in the cemetery.

“Haunting, beautiful, informative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

The cemetery is a history lesson. As you read the historical markers, you quickly discover you are visiting giants in the history of Savannah, Georgia, and our country. Many of the tombstones are so weathered that you cannot read anything on them. Also, my husband and I noticed some markers that had dates and ages that didn't make sense. Afterwards, I read that Sherman's men had carved extra numbers into several of the stones while they were camping there. History upon history! Take the time to stroll through the cemetery if you visit the area. It is free and is really a lovely place.
