This was a nice looking property when we arrived although a bit hard to find using our GPS since the street it is on apparently is new and the only address on it is the hotels. It has a nice view of the golf course and its lake on the back side of the hotel. Keep in mind there is only one way in and out of the parking lot and when it is full, it would be difficult for larger vehicles (i.e. pickup trucks with trailers or RV's) to turn around.
Now to the hotel in general:
There was mold growing on the tile in the shower/tub area that was blatantly obvious. There is NO good reason it should have been there since it was black on a white caulk background. The vent fan in the bathroom was extremely noisy and don't leave your soap bar in the un-drained soap dish in the shower--it collects water quickly and the soap melts almost as fast. The pantry was well stocked but the "cold drinks" were too warm and the frozen food freezer needs defrosting so you can access the meals hidden under the ice cream bars. We pulled some up to the top so the next visitors would see they had some choices other than junk food before we left.
The breakfast in the morning was diverse for "cold" items like fruits (bananas, apples, oranges), packaged cereals, and muffins, but the waffle mix produced watery/separated solutions that stuck to the waffle iron, the scrambled eggs were terrible with an almost plastic texture to them--and over-salted to boot, the sausage gravy was bland and the sausage patties were overly greasy. The quality of these items and the danishes, milk, muffins and biscuits attested to their overall inexpensive costs to the hotel. Makes one wonder if the staff actually tasted these foods before ordering/serving them or if someone is getting a kickback from the vendor. I've had better food in hospitals than what they served here.
Our room itself was pretty nice. The beds were comfortable with lots of pillows, but don't get excited thinking there was a variety of firmness to choose from like in most hotels with a lot of pillows on the bed. They were all pretty much soft. At least the carpet looked clean in the rooms and hallways. The walls are a little too thinly insulated against sound from adjacent rooms for my taste if you are going to allow barking dogs in the place. The thumps on the floor above reverberate nicely though and make you wonder if they might be joining you soon in your room.
This much I do have to give them; not sure if it was just the Southern Hospitality the Deep South is known for or the specific efforts of the HR department, but the Staff was extremely nice and polite. The calls to Maintenance to fix the snow on every tv channel were quickly answered b both times it occurred and everyone greeted you with a smile and a "Hello" most of the time. It was their friendliness, especially Erica's at check-in, that keeps me from rating this hotel as "Terrible"...well that and the fact it was so nice looking inside.
