“We wouldn't return.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Our room was not ready when we got here and since it would be an hour wait, we took a different room. The lady at the desk was a bit sour. It was a king room, with the bed and a chair, no desk. So, one of us had to sit or lay on the bed. The bathroom had a nice pedestal sink, but there wasn't a place to set anything.
NO internet in our room. We were told that we could connect in the lobby, but that didn't work either. Several other guests were trying and no one was getting online.
I think a continental breakfast should have been available for the price.
The view to the west was great and it was close to Fallingwater and the Ohiopyle State Park.

We decided to take a anniversary trip for a couple of days. We decided on the Summit Inn. We had drove past it for years on our way home from visiting the grandchildren, and said we have to stay there some time. Well, we finally did it. WE LOVED IT. Very quaint, peaceful, and relaxing. Loved the Fireplaces, the pool, the people, the food, the whole experience. I would recommend the Summit Inn to everyone. We're going to make this a yearly trip. One more thing, The huge porch, lovely to set, enjoy the view (sunsets) meet nice people, have a glass of wine etc. you won!t be disappointed.

My husband and I went to the Summit for our first anniversary weekend. We are in our mid-20s and weren't sure what to expect. The moment we walked into the Summit, we felt like we step back into a laid-back, warm time. The whole place is open to the guests. During the day, we were able to go into the bar area and play the table games. (I strongly suggest taking your shot at "Skittles" - A very addicting old-school bar game. They have a set of instructions handy).

The sunsets are priceless. I also think it was really neat to watch the fog set in the mountains and rise again each morning. We ate dinner on the veranda and the food was delicious. I would recommend the calamari appetizer for sure. My husband had the crab cakes and raved about them.

One of the best things about the Summit is how conveniently located it is to key attractions - we visited the Laurel Caverns, Fallingwaters, Ohiopyle and the local shops. There was much more to do in the area than I expected. Then, when we wanted some quiet time, we just sat in rockers on the front porch of the Summit with a cup of coffee and relax.

As I started, this place is a great place to relax and just enjoy some couple time. Definitely have dinner while you are there!!

We stopped here for 1 night recently, as a matter of convenience. I was happily surprised by what I had booked. The Inn reminds me of the beautiful Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, CO. The huge front porches are so inviting. The open areas in the lobby, with seating around a fireplace, add such a warm & cozy feel. The grand staircase beckons you to explore past the registration desk. I just LOVE those grand old hotels!

this is a wonderful place to stay if you simply want to wind down. my wife and I have stayed here just about every year since 1985. we love the views and massive porch . there are two things that are bothersome but only one that can be changed. the noise of tractor trailers straining up the mountain, and the other is the addition of a television in the lobby, it has destroyed the ambiance. years ago it was a pleasure to watch folks enjoying the fire, playing chess or assembling a puzzle, now you not only have the noise and glare of the tv you have folks sitting like zombies staring at it. not a good thing for such a beautiful old resort. I recommend designating that tv to another room other than the wonderful old world atmosphere of the lobby.

We were visiting the Frank Lloyd Wright Exhibition Homes in the neighborhood.
Early in June - the very beginning of the season for this part of the country, but we did not know that! Our rooms were ready and beautifully prepared, the views we had expected however were not to be had. The mountain was under a cloud cover and what we saw from our excellent advantage point was exactly that! Not the fault of the hotel.
The hotel was quiet, some visitors like ourselves and a lot of more local people enjoying the restaurant services. We relaxed, enjoyed drinks on the porch, and the "best" reserved table for dinner each night. The food was excellent, the service very personal, and carried through to breakfast each morning. There is a lot to be said to for getting to know the staff!
This is an excellent hotel. My 4 star is only because it is indeed an historic building, some conveniences expected by many just are not there. You do need to carry bags, climb stairs, call the bar tender to an empty bar room, but that for me is part of the charm. For us it was 6 star!

While there is a spectacular view, the hotel sits right on the highway. If you have a room with a view you get to hear big rigs lumbering up the steep grade to the summit all night. That, combined with paper-thin walls, makes this a challenging place to stay. I found the decor depressing: TVs blaring in the lobby and bar, Muzak on in the dining room, faded drapes and paint, styrofoam cups for coffee.

I'm sorry to hear that your experience with us was not what you had expected. We strive to create a comfortable atmosphere for our guests while preserving the historic nature of the hotel. The tv noise was due to the Monday night football game and I apologize for the volume. I thank you for your comments and will work to improve the experience for future guests.
