“Summit Inn Too Pricey For the Accomodations”

The Historic Summit Inn is not worth the money they ask to stay there. Rooms smell stale and the hotel itself looks very archaic inside and out. The hotel should not be able to ask the price they do with such old accomidations. Inside pool wasn't even heated when I was there. Very disappointing. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Go down the Road to Nemacolin.

the Summit Inn is by far the best b&b i have ever stayed in! this year when my husband and I were planning our vacation, we were leaning towards visiting a remote area, and stumbled across information on western PA attractions such as Frank Llyod Wrights "Fallingwater". As we began researching the hotels and inns nearest to these sites, we realized that we wernt going to find a Hilton or even a Holiday inn tucked away in the vast mountains of the laurel highlands. We decided to then go to my father for information ( a man who has been in the travel agency business for over 30 years) on what kind of accomadations we could find that would give us both luxury AND a rustic feel. i was a little weary when he presented us a list of bed and breakfests in the area. i wasnt really up for a small family run business that has shared bathrooms and outdated rooms. but my husband suggested we look further into my fathers recomendations, so we went straight to this website for reviews and info on the hotels. like many of you readers who are probably feeling a little uncertain about the Summit after checking out some of the reviews, i too had looked past it. My husband on the otherhand, was inticed by the online photo gallery of the view. So going with his instincts, we decided that it was worth taking a shot. let me tell you now to DISREGUARD any of the bad reviews you have read on the Summit. it was absolutly fantastic! when we first arrived i was in awe at the location and the view from its veranda. upon entry i was still a little unsure about the old building...one hundred years old to be exact. i thought "how could a historic building like this fit our needs?" All this was anwserd within the first day of our stay. When checking in, the front desk staff was extremly helpful and personable. they asked us questions about our stay and what we were doing. Right from the start they were friendly and welcoming which definitly made the stay better! when we got to our room (a standard king) we decided we couldnt just settle without a view. the front desk attendants were happy to move us to another room with a view for just an extra 15 dollars and it certainly was worth it. Dinner was what i was most concerned about, being a vegetarien and an awfully picky eater. That meal undoubtedly was one of the best i have ever had..and breakfest was just as good! it was nice for a change to eat somewhere that fit the needs for both my husband and I. I had one of there specialty pasta dishes, and he enjoyed what they claim to be "the best crab cakes in the USA"....it was wonderful!

The next day we went to Fallingwater and Ohiopyle which were only 15 minutes down rt. 40. it just amazed me how close the inn was to all these attractions. our only problem with the entire trip was that we hadnt set enough time to do everything we wanted to! for future guests i would suggest giving yourselves AT LEAST two full days to enjoy the area...and the inn! with so much to do, for so many differnt occasions, i truley feel that the summit is the perfect place for ANY type of vacation or getaway. I highly recomend it and cannot wait to come back next year!!!!

From the outside this is a beautiful hotel, but from the inside it's anything but. The verandas and the pool are lovely, but the rooms are tiny and the service is terrible. I stayed here with my dog and they wouldn't let him in any public area on the property. The feel of this place is bad. Don't stay here.

Enchanting historic Inn located at the top of a mountain overlooking miles & miles of rolling hills. At night, a beautiful view of the cities below. Very clean. Beautiful lobby w/double wood staircase, huge stone fireplace.

Stayed when touring Fallingwater, Ft Necessity, Laurel Caverns, Ohiopyle. Would take this charming historic inn before I'd stay at a chain hotel anyday. Good location for what we were touring. Had jacuzzi, pool, old-time wrap around veranda, lots of room, not overcrowded at all even tho a wedding party was being held that evening.

Could have used a (even if crudely drawn) map of the grounds, something telling you the hotel policies (ie take your ice bucket to the lobby clerk to get ice, that there's coffee in the lobby & the times, that you must request the lobby clerk open the gift shop if you want to look) & what was in walking/close-by-car distance incl local restaurants.

Hotel restaurant was pricey for us so we ventured to local area restaurants which were fine. They were difficult to find though bc the only indication of area restaurants is a binder book in the hotel lobby w/few choices in it & no maps to tell where they are.

Overall wonderful place to stay, incl our suggestions for improvements.

My husband and I were in the Ohiopyle area for a "Peddle Paddle" trip over the Memorial Day weekend with friends. We decided to stay at the Summit Inn - my first time. From the exterior I was expecting something completely different - I've always thought that the hotel looked like the place in "The Shining." What a surprise - the inside was so charming. We had a newly renovated room, the bathroom was updated with a new shower, tile floor and pedestal sink. Our friends' room didn't look like it had a makeover yet though. The inn had a fire going in the stone (lobby) fireplace both morning and evening - using real logs, not gas or electric. The night we stayed was slightly chilly but the inn's doors were wide open to the veranda and deck - this was very nice since there was a musician playing in the bar. We were able to sip wine on the patio listening to great music under the stars. In the morning we added the breakfast plan, for $8 I had a delicious omlette, home fries, bread, coffee and juice. Can't beat that. Wonderful stay, would go back again. Just ask for one of the newly renovated rooms to get a better bathroom.
