I was a bit skeptical before visiting the Tremont Plaza Hotel, as the hotel was priced suspiciously below other 3-star downtown hotels. However, my fears were quickly alleviated upon my registration. THe hotel sits about 5 blocks north of the Inner Harbor in the city's business district, and the pricing of the property seems driven by its location away from the bustling Harbor (though it's only a 5-minute walk from the tourist attractions) rather than by its many amenities.
The hotel is an all-suite property with an amazing historical building with meeting and caterin space attached (that building, the Tremont Grand, opens this coming Spetember). Each suite features a kitchenette as well as in-room movies and a full offering of cable television stations, a fun fact that not every hotel in Baltimore can brag about. The huge Premier Suites, priced only $30 more than the standard studio suites, offer a bedroom, living room, dining area, and the kitchenette--all for under $200 on most nights!
The property lacks the uppity feel of its harborfront neighbors. The hotel is less costly and emits a better comfort level than its non-harbor competitors along nearby Baltimore Street, which sit along a dangerous corridor.
Again, I was a bit weary about choosing this hotel, as its price seemed too good to be true. Yet, I uncovered an oasis in Baltimore's central business district. Insider's tip: I shopped the hotel on hotels, Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz, and they all had the same rates. The cheapest price was actually on the hotel's direct website, -------.
