I stayed here for a conference and heard all these stories about how close you are to downtown and that is might be scary. I cannot believe l was even having doubts--this place was great. First, nice lobby--hip and yet comforting at the same time. Great "guy who knows eveything" (can't spell the word correctly!)--he was great about where I can find a post office, gluten free food, need a car ride to Annapolis, you name it. Loved the attached HUGE mall. LOVED the bars close by--hotel and outside, the community concerts by the water and awesome seafood right off the dock. Best part: the first night I was kept up a bit by someone right next door who was thumping some kind of bass, not quite "music," not quite TV. Bothered me, but got to bed with some Advil PM and earplugs (!). The next day, stopped by my room for a quick lunch break and I heard the same noise. Figured out it was someone playing thier aucoustic guitar..and they were not good! I went downstairs and asked how long this person would be there--they said as long as me. I assumed he was with the same conference. Not skipping a beat, they offered me a suite at the top: "It has a Murphy Bed but will be really quiet." I didn't want to take chances in the room I had so I moved. Man, I got moved to what would be considered a hospitality suite with a living room, kitchenette and a view--what a difference! Yeah, it was a Murphy Bed, but it was comfy and the room (apartment!) was great! Had some co-workers over one night to hang out and had another friend from Baltimore come up to spend the night too. It was great to be able to entertain. The hotel just threw in an extra fold out twin bed, so that all worked out great. Plus, won a gift card at the conference and experienced the restaurant--very good. Liked the Aveda products in the bedroom. Room service food was good. Ate at this awesome place down the road, Miss Shirley's Cafe--good lord! So dang good! Shopped for some shoes on the way back. Ate at an awesome food truck on another day and mailed a mothers day card and stopped by the Walgreens for some wine on another day (yeah, long conference, I know). All pretty close, easy to get to and not scary in the least. Top of the trip was my friend coming in on the train from DC (not a far walk ) and after dinner, talking a water taxi into taking us over to a place close by (we didn't know where we were going and he was closing up, so beggars can't be choosers!). We ended up at a great bar that served pain killers (I had just come back from the islands so wanted some of that and was very happy!). Great cab back and just a wonderful time. All in all, Baltimore was a very, very pleasant surprise and the Ren. Harborplace is in the BEST location you could ask for. I will say that the place is just a tad bit older, so some might be put off by it (lack o' elevators). It didn't bother me though.
