“Great place for seafood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

I actually visited here twice while in town for business. Our group had deferral different menu items, but all stayed their food was outstanding. I enjoyed the pan seared scallops accompanied by Brussels sprouts. The scallops were cooked perfectly, tender and flavorful. On our second visit, I had the seafood potato skins.
A large serving of crab, scallops and shrimp in a rich sauce atop a potato skin. Once again very tasty. We shared the crab artichoke dip which was outstanding. Again, my group ordered everything from the cedar plank salmon to steak, and none were disappointed. Let me add their specialty crush drinks are not to be missed.
Both times our wait staff was attentive and friendly. Only minor complaint
is the atmosphere.
The lower level is very small
and right next to the bar so very loud(don't take a date unless you head upstairs). Overall worth visiting while in Baltimore.

“Awesome seafood fest!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Mama's on the Half Shell is a pretty darn good seafood fest, from crab cakes and scallops to oysters and shrimp. You name it, they've got it. Their menu is huge and you'll have to take a good long look before you decide on what to get. Or you can just order at random and that'll likely have you satisfied anyway.

I think it's safe to say that the entire appetizers portion of the menu is great (Though I have yet to try their famous hot wings. Why get wings when you're at a seafood restaurant?) In addition, I generally am not a fan of crab dip. But a special kudos to Mama's on the Half Shell because I tried their crab and artichoke dip and loved it.

“Great food but beware of the strict rules”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

One of my favorite spots for lunch, we recently ran into some trouble for dinner. This neighborhood hot spot has great, fresh seafood and the evening fare which included excellent crab cakes, fresh fish dishes and tons of food did not disappoint. Once seated we had a great time. The one downside; this restaurant is definitely not a spot for meeting friends for dinner. BEWARE, here is the rule. If your entire party is not there within 10 minutes of your reservation ... you go to the back of the line and start over. On this weekday evening, we were meeting friends from all over as this restaurant provided a nice central location. What a nightmare. We had planned to grab a table with the majority of the group and have two of our friends (who were still at work) show up as the night progressed. This is against their rules and they are quite inflexible, almost to the point of arrogance.

It seems that table turnover was far more important than being accommodating. Some of our group had to leave ... without dinner waiting for the group that was coming later. We all coped and had drinks for 90 minutes in the cramped bar area and the food was great once we sat down, but we will not schedule a group get together here again. Unfortunately.

“Not as good as it used to be...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

We've been coming here for years on our annual trips up and down the east coast and always used to love it...

For some reason, this time around it just didn't seem quite as good as it used to be... the menu is the same, but everything seemed to be swimming in fat or butter this time around...

Maybe we just hit it on a bad day, but it definitely wasn't what it was...

“So i had to try it...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013 via mobile

My bf and i went last night. The meal was very good and cheap. We got an app, 2 seafood clubs(a must have) and two beers. The atomsphere was noisy and it made it hard for us to have a convo but it Bawltimore hunny and it was all good.
The only con i have about this place is that there was no AC. That was a turn off sweating while eating thia great food.
