“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We stayed here a couple of nights in June for the Yankees game. Make sure you park in the garage across the street, much cheaper than the hotel parking-$4 on weekends! The first impression was not good. We arrived before check in and our room was not ready, not a problem it was not check in time yet. We walked down to the inner harbor and had lunch, checked it out and came back after 3 pm. There is a line of wedding guests and the room is STILL not ready. I get out my fan I brought, sit in the tiny lobby and cool down (the uphill walk from the inner harbor is a pain- I suggest taking the free charm city bus back up). We sit for another 20 minutes watching many people being told their room is not ready as maids are leaving for the day.....if all these rooms are not ready why are they all leaving!?!? Finally I see one guy who actually gets to check in so I prod my husband to go see if ours is ready. It is now 4:30 pm. It is ready. We are ready to relax and take a shower since we have been sweating like crazy in the heat that day. Only one elevator is working!!! The poor lady at check in thanked us for being patient and nice since so many people were angry. Once we actually got to our room it was nice. Two queen beds, pretty large, by the quiet alley side. the ac is a little loud but that did not bother me. The room was quite cool. We needed extra towels which they brought right away. The room was very quiet, the breakfast was pretty good, just make sure you get there as early as you can or you may have to wait for a table. This place just needs better management I think. My friend took the stairs back up since only one elevator was working and somebody had spilled something right outside the stair doors and she fell right on her butt! There is no reason the rooms should not be ready by three. This place has some good and some bad points so eh, it is ok.

We enjoyed our brief one night stay at Mt Vernon. Thanks to Tiffany & Molly, we got a good deal when they matched a Priceline offer for us. $50 less than any other comparable property. Well worth it for the location. We had fun on the Urban Pirate Ship--Just 10 minutes away--and a great time at the Baltimore Science Center--a short Free ride on the Charm City Circulator. Room was comfy with two queen beds, clean bathroom/shower/carpets & appropriate amenities (except no luggage rack). Cafeteria style buffet breakfast was suitable. $4 weekend parking across the street saved us $$ and check-in at 5pm on Saturday was a breeze after hearing about previous check-in disasters at the Mt Vernon :-)

As an Inn Manager myself, one thing for them to consider would be encasements on the mattresses & boxsprings for their own protection from little visiting friends. It would give a little more peace of mind for the conscious traveller. Otherwise, I was happy with Mt Vernon and consider returning in the future.

We were concerned about booking at this hotel based on the ratings. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was spacious, king size bed, and very clean. The breakfast was terrific...dining room staff were very pleasant. This is an old historic hotel that has been modernized...quite quaint.
We would return.

We had a wonderful stay at the Mount Vernon Hotel. The Manager and his assistants really make sure all their guests are well taken care of. Angela's food in the cafe is excellent. The Cowboy Burger is a must. Beautiful hotel and very close to all of Baltimore's outstanding sites.

Stayed at the Mount Vernon hotel for a few days in July. As other reviewers have noted, it is a dated hotel. It's a historic hotel that must have been lovely in its time and is still charming. Though it is dated now and one can see carpet and furniture that needs updating, rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is great. Right by the gorgeous basilica and Charles street. Located right by the Charm City Circulator (free buses) and Hopkins Shuttle (Peabody stop). The best part though is the Sincerely Yours restaurant run by Angela. She loves to cook and it is like eating a home cooked meal which I greatly appreciated after few days on the road. If I come back to the hotel, it may be the location or Angela's cooking!

Stayed here for three nights. As other reviewers have noted, this hotel is old, but it is charming. Only two downsides: The bed was tiny, truly teensy weensy, and I am generous when I call it a double bed size and the air-conditioning made a racket.

Full hot breakfast included is a plus. The shower was great. Hotel was easy walking distance from the Inner Harbor, where I understand all the action is.
I would recommend this hotel only to those who appreciate a historical ambience, like me, and can translate peeling wallpaper into "charming" which it was.

This is a budget hotel in a decent area but we had a few issues. The air conditioning in the room didn't work so we had to change rooms. The SWAT team showed up the next morning for a "guest". Our room was never cleaned and the toilet ran all night.
