My wife (E) and I checked into the historic Admiral Fell Inn about 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 26, 2006. We had booked a “True Romance Package” weekend at the Inn to celebrate our twentieth anniversary.
Additionally, we wanted to explore the beautiful and historically-rich Fells Point area around Baltimore Harbor.
PROBLEM: We had reserved a “Double Double” room (two double beds) and we were assigned to a “Single” room. A quick visit to the front desk, and the staff corrected the problem . . . although we had to wait over an hour for them to get the “new” room prepared.
The check-in was followed by a flurry of activity:
1. A traditional English tea party, hosted by governess ghost, Miss April Flemming.
2. Cocktails in the Admiral’s Lounge.
3. A one-hour “Ghost Tour” of the hotel and surroundings (guided tour of the hotel, grounds, and reportedly “haunted” areas of the property).
4. Wine(s) in the Admiral’s Lounge.
5. And, finally, dinner at the true (yes, with a small "t") Restaurant.
E and I were a bit flustered upon our arrival at the Inn. The activities were wonderful, but somewhat over-whelming.
We were a little late for our 6:30 PM reservations at true, but were pleasantly greeted and seated immediately.
The $25.00 romantic “Harbor Magic Flowers turndown” was a nice touch . . . a huge heart-shaped design on the bed, made with real, fresh rose petals, along with a sprinkling of rose petals around the bed. That, along with the fresh roses, champagne and Godiva chocolates added to my lovely wife’s romantic mood.
Two nights, dinner at the true Restaurant (normal price of the meal would have been $110.00), two super breakfasts, valet parking (for two days), etc. . . . all for $478.00 (plus tax) . . . try to match THAT in any other large city!
Would we go back? You know it!
