“Baltimore Aquarium”

Definitely worth seeing! Earlier the better. We got there at 10:00 after traveling night before on Labor Day weekend. We saw just about everything before crowd. It gets really crowed about 1:00 and the enjoyment is lessened because of the crowd so get there early.
It is expensive so enjoy the trip...You don't do this everyday so go for the memories.
We had to save for our family of 5.

“So much to see!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

My five year old son heard about the aquarium from his babysitter, and he couldn't wait to go. He loved the sharks, the rays, the electric eel, the dolphins, and especially the jellyfish. He also really loved the bubble pipes near the entrance. It was pretty crowded, but I would not have minded so much if I were not trying to navigate through the crowds with my little guy, LOL! I really liked the birds in the Australia section. We had decent wrap sandwiches at the cafe, which had a nice view of the Inner Harbor. There were a lot of animals to see and a lot of programs offered, it was a nice visit.

“Worth visiting if you are in the area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

We were in town to see the Summer Antiques Show and decided to stay an extra day to see the aquarium. We bought our tickets in advance and used one of their kiosks to print them out. It was very easy and worked flawlessly.

Having read that the aquarium can be crowded, we arrived as early as possible (8:30 AM) on a Sunday. I'm glad we did - it was great for the first hour and a half or so, but by about 10:00 AM it was starting to get crowded which makes it difficult to see the exhibits. Most of the National Aquarium has an interesting sort of one-directional layout so it his hard to move over to a less crowded area for a while and return later. And while it appears great for families with kids, there is enough diversity of animals and quality exhibits to keep adults interested. In addition to the aquatic life they have two fun walk-in aviaries with tropical birds and birds from Australia. Probably those aviaries and the jellyfish exhibit were the highlights for me.

In terms of what to expect: I would say this aquarium is better than average, and better than the one in Camden, New Jersey. But not as good as the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, for example. In my mind it's not worth a special trip, but worth visiting if you will be in the area.

“Great variety of marine animals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Visited the aquarium during a weekday in August, with no crowds at all. Park at Lockwood Place garage across the street for a small discount (check aquarium website for more details). We just spent a few days visiting the free and outstanding Smithsonian museums in Washington...the entrance fee to the aquarium, in comparison, was almost $100 for a family of 4 (expensive to maintain such a collection of marine animals). The exhibits are very well presented. Lots of fish species, and some land animals especially in the Australian pavillion. We were especially impressed by the reef sharks and jelly fish collection. Some of the tanks are quite small (with room for perhaps one small group to take a good look at a time). I can see howfrustrating it can be with a large crowd moving through. Strollers are not permitted - the aquarium depends on escalators to move visitors from one level to the next. It is not particularly large. At a leisurely pace with no crowds, we saw everything in less than 3 hours.

“Great place if you have comfy shoes.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013 via mobile

I went to the aquarium on a Sunday and was expecting hordes of people and long lines. I was surprised and delighted that I was wrong. I took a pair of 8 year olds and they loved it. There were interactive touch screens, presentations and we were happy to find out about the dolphin show. Tickets can be pricey, but if you go to all 3 halls you get your money's worth. The staff were friendly and helpful (even with the 8 year olds questions).
