“A shining star!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

I'm ashamed to admit that it's been a year since visiting the Blue Door, and I haven't written them the review they deserve. My husband and I just finished talking about our visit there and how wonderful it was and it moved me to write this review. Our time spent there was absolutely wonderful. The room accommodations were beautiful, modern, and classy. The hosts were such wonderful people, very welcoming and informative. The breakfast was absolutely to die for, so if you have the chance to sit for a full breakfast, DO IT! Fells Point is one of our favorite towns now. We are so glad we decided on this bed and breakfast as opposed to some of the other pricier ones, we got exactly what we were looking for. I rated the swimming pool and fitness center by accident and couldn't remove it, but there is no pool or gym.

Thank you so much for taking the time to put us on your schedule to post a review. We agree Fells Point is a most special place to experience while visiting Baltimore and should not be missed. Only a 10 minute walk from the Blue Door, Fells Point gains you full access to Baltimore's Inner Harbor attractions and Neighborhoods using the water taxi system. Not to be missed on a weekend visit to the Charm City.

We did notice your correction on the availability of a gym and pool. While we do not have those facilities on-site, we do have arrangements with a gym close by for day pass access. If Yoga is what you are missing, that is available on premise. Cecelia is a certified instructor and personal trainer. Please do inquire with your reservation arrangements for a personal or group session while at the Blue Door.

I am not given easily to superlatives when it comes to lodging, and I am used to pretty high end hotels when traveling, but this one is WOW! The Blue Door is hands down the best B&B I have ever stayed in and it also outclasses a significant number of top hotels I have been in. I have not often come across the attention to detail for guests that Roger and Cecelia show in their lovely inn, from the amazing bed and fine bed linen to the evening turn down home made cookies and chocolates. The place is impeccably clean and meticulously well kept. You know they're paying attention when their cat is hypoallergenic (I'm very allergic and was not bothered at all in the common area). Top it off with an excellent location, Roger's intimate knowledge of the neighborhood and bang on advice about where to eat, what to visit and do, and voilà: the perfect place to stay in Baltimore and worth every penny. Highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the Blue Door last weekend in May. We both loved everything about our trip to Baltimore, especially the B&B and all the amenities. Our innkeepers Roger and Cecelia were very helpful and did everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated and we had the most comfortable bed ever. Roger was serving us delicious breakfasts and his knowledge about Baltimore was amazing. Cecelia had so many great recommendations on where to go to eat. We will definitely stay there again when we'll visit Baltimore next time.

I typically pay $70-90 for hotel rooms, but the hotels in this range inside Baltimore had dismal reviews, so i took a deep breath + reserved 3 nights in the Washburn room (the only one left). first impressions were great: spacious room w/king bed; 3 chairs + sitting ottoman thingie; bathtub AND shower (separately; tub has handheld sprayer); supersoft blankets (polyester microfiber); small fountain (which i unplugged); "dream machine" by the bed (couldn't figure out how to work it); BeeKind soap + lotion by the sink; gilchrist + soames toiletries (incl. bath salts); funny floorlength hooded cotten robes (made my partner look like a cult leader [his beard didn't help], so i told him to take it off); two more robes in closet; dvd player; rolled up yoga mat in corner; small dish of hershey's dark chocolate kisses (anti-oxidants!); + plate of mini cookies, white fudge (that looked like cheese cubes- surprise!), + grapes. We were met at the door by Bill, who said the owners were out. the Washburn room is on the first/second floor (one floor up from ground floor); it's right next to the "library", which is a teeny room (not for sitting in) w/books (fiction, nonfiction, travel guides, yoga in a book); also, a printer; a fridge full of soda (ginger ale, root beer, diet coke, etc.); a hot/cold water machine, coffeemaker, and basket of teas. Seems like a great place for an extended stay if you can afford it; tall closets w/compartments for shoes; deep drawers in bedside tables. Room comes with lint roller, hand crank flashlight, + hairdryer. Decor is understated + neutral; great for me because I don't like flowery rooms.
Con: awkward washing my face without banging my head against the mirrored medicine cabinet. Couldn't figure out climate control; maybe it's housewide? Couldn't find a thermostat in the room. For light sleepers like me, you might get woken up by other people walking up/down stairs/hallway.
Breakfasts: each day had a different entree, such as tomato/spinach/egg frittata or french toast bananas foster. then there was assorted breads, toast, english muffins, mini scones, and fruit. Breakfast was served @9 every morning, regardless of weekday/weekend.
We stayed Thurs-Sat night. Very occasional street noise, pretty quiet neighborhood, except for a truck making piercing beeps as it backed up on Sat @7 a.m. (thought it was the fire alarm).
I didn't meet Rog + Cecilia; we were hosted by the substitute innkeeper, Bill, who tried to please.

Thank you for the review of your stay at the Blue Door on Baltimore. We appreciate your letting other guests know about our many amenity offerings.

We (Cecelia and Roger) regret taking some time away during from the Inn during your visit and not having the opportunity to meet you. There may have also been some confusion on a couple of things in our turn over of things to Bill, our Interim Innkeeper. We do apologize for that and will work more intently on those in the future.

Breakfast times at the Blue Door are 7:00AM till 10:00AM weekdays and Weekends 8:30 till 10:00AM. The Dream Machine Alarm Clock which can accommodate your iPhone or iPod had and instruction guide in the nightstand drawer. Sorry that was missed.

Our one piece beltless FreeBeneath spa robes, while maybe not meeting the fashion statement you may have desired for your partner, are quite comfy and usually the talk around our breakfast table in the morning. You are right in suggesting that our thermostats are centrally located in the building. Each room does feature a ceiling fans to further adjust temperatures to your liking.

We are not sure how the items identified may have been overlooked in Bill's introduction to the Blue Door. They are represented here for additional traveler information.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Blue Door for several nights in connection with a visit to Johns Hopkins Hospital. It is very well-located near the hospital (7 minutes' walk), and is a charming neighborhood that has been substantially restored. Our room was comfortable, with all the right amenities. We were able to open the door to a little balcony, which gave us fresh air, as well. The proprietors are very accommodating, and breakfast was healthy and tasty, both on weekdays and weekends. They directed us to local restaurants and the pub for Trivia Night. We would happily stay here again.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this charming and well located Baltimore B&B. The owners, Roger and Cecelia, are knowledgable and friendly. We were greeted with warm towelettes and given a great history of the area, as well as really good recommendations on where to go. I truly enjoyed their recommendation of the restaurant Salt- a neighborhood restaurant that features upscale cuisine in a comfortable atmosphere with affordable prices. I loved returning to the room in the evening to fresh baked goodies! When we return to Baltimore, there is no place I'd rather stay than here.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Door and the hospitality of the owners. The continental breakfast we we offered was more than that. We had eggs made to order, they were delicious and placed over a bedding of baby spinach, what a nice touch. Plenty of breads to choose from.

We'll be back. Thank you.

Room Tip: Our back room on the 2nd floor had a balcony with seats and table. It was quiet too. Good selection...
