“Majestic mountain beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

Few would believe Texas can get cool at night. Coming from Houston, we needed it and got it. Able to ride horses, stay at a state park hotel, and hike. Lovely vacation

“Great hikes and lots of birds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

The cool summer breezes up in the mountains make this place a wonderful get-away from the blistering heat in the lower elevations of Texas. We stayed in Fort Davis this trip but I can't wait to take the kids camping here.

“2nd visit to this park, still love it!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

We visited this state park again at Spring Break, this time we brought the kids bikes and felt very safe with them riding around the campground and down to the bird watching area. We revisited our favorites, Fort Davis NP, Balmorhea and the Observatory, this time was able to make a Star Party. However, for a long day trip instead of heading south to Big Bend we went north visiting Carlsbad Caverns. We took the highway traveling through Pecos, which took us about 3 hours to get there. We left about 6:30am and got there quite early and was able to take two tours, have dinner and make it back to Ft Davis before it got too late. Fort Davis is much prettier than the area around Carlsbad, so we preferred staying there and making the drive.

“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

We went here both nights we were there. We were looking for javalinas. We were surprised to see several families of javalinas our last evening here. They head toward the campgrounds at dusk. There are also a wide variety of birds and other wildlife there. We saw deer, javalina's and a fox.

“Beautiful park with amazing views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

We did not camp in the park, although the sites looked large and well shaded. We did some birding and drove up the Skyline Drive to the top of the ridge where we got sweeping vistas of the surrounding area. If we'd had more time we would have loved to hike some of the trails. There is a lovely lodge and restaurant tucked in the hills, as well.
