My husband and I stayed at the Indian Lodge during the first week of March. It was beautiful and very quiet in the lodge area. We loved the room; big and clean with excellent views. I recommend getting the top rooms; they have the best views and the king-size beds. Our room number was 122 ($113 per night). Comfortable bed, big TV, big bathroom. Very nice. No microwave or refrig., but the lodge restaurant (the Black Bear) is very good and reasonable. Plus, the town of Fort Davis is just 4 miles away for other places to eat. There is coffee ready in the office between 5:00 and 7:00am when the restaurant opens. We did hear the people below us a little so the floor must be pretty thin, but it wasn't annoying. No internet, but we didn't care about that. Make sure you read all the history of the lodge in the very nice lobby. The pool looked inviting if it wasn't so cold. Take the beautiful Skyline Drive that begins at the camping area. Also, there are hiking trails around the lodge. We saw deer on side of the mountain right out our window one morning. Our main objective was McDonald Observatory which is 13 miles away. You must go there! We went to the solar viewing, guided tour and the Star Pary. It was all fantastic! Worth every dime. We did everything so it was $40 for the both of us. Don't miss the 74-mile Davis Mountains Loop that will take you back into the town of Fort Davis. There is a really nice picnic area in the Madera Canyon past the observatory. We took the loop drive after the guided tour at the observatory and got back to the lodge in plenty of time to rest and eat and get back to the observatory for the Star Party (bring plenty of warm clothes for that!). There is a phone is the lodge room where you can call using your credit card and you can get cell service in the town. All in all, it was a lovely 2 day stop before heading on to Big Bend.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Indian Lodge. The Lodge is a beautiful historical property in the middle of the Davis Mountains. It is operated by the park service. Our room was in the historical portion of the hotel. The room was clean. The only problem with the room is a double bed for two people, which is a little cozy! Our last trip we hiked the mountains right behind the lodge, which are beautiful. On our way to dinner, we saw some javelinas crossing the road in the park. The setting is beautiful, and we will definitely be back!

This really is the only option if you want to stay inside the park, and don’t like the idea of a tent, and it is a good choice.
Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable; the bathroom is small but functional.
No phone or internet conections.
The restaurant is o.k. – nothing exceptional but you get big portions for a reasonable amount of money – not bad at all. Restaurant is a bit barren and floodlighted.
In Fort Davis you will find a grocery, we asked and were told “everything” was closed down – but one restaurant is still open. It is right outside of town, called Papas grill, they serve hamburgers and pizza etc. All in our company tried the hamburgers (four different types) and all of them ware very good! Excellent – recommend a hamburger at Papas grill – you need something else than the cafeteria at Indian lodge…
The surroundings are beautiful!

This wonderful Texas Park Lodge has been redone, and was an incredible place for our family. Rooms were simply, but very clean, food was good, pool nice. Everyone had a blast hiking, biking, birdwatching and relaxing.

My family and I were here back in July. This place is the best. We had no cell phone service, no internet, but that worked for me. The room and bathroom were big, clean and comfortable. The room had a TV with cable and telephone but no microwave or refrigerator but wasn't high priority anyway. All in all very nice for a state run park and hotel. The restaurant is allright and very reasonable. The mountain views everywhere around you are beautiful. Interesting plants and flowers. Lots of places to hike and walk. We were outside alot even in evenings as they have a nice covered porch area with table and chairs overlook the pool area and the mountains. The weather was great. It was actually cool in upper 50's in evening and 80's daytime but alot less humidity. Be sure to go into town to the Ft. Davis Historical Site which is very interesting. Go see McDonald Observatory day tour and attend the "Star Party" at night. Its kind of expensive but well worth it and its just one time opportunity. Our kids enjoyed it. I forgot how beautiful the night sky is and how many stars there are at night. You can also see the "milky way" . Another small plus is the hotel office is manned 24hours but locked at 11pm. They have a small gift shop and have items to sell incase you need something for illness or other personal items.I definitely want to come back here sometime soon.
