Astoria does not have many reasonably priced hotels with good tripadvisor reviews so we chose a B&B instead. Clementine's sounded wonderful, particularly based on the website.
We booked the Garden room to avoid carrying our bags up too many stairs, little did we anticipate the steep stairs to reach the house from the street! See the picture. The room was tiny, no room for suicases and certainly not to use our laptop. WIFI was available in the great room and worked reasonably well, if you don't mind paying bills, etc... with other people around!
The owner was not present the evening when we checked in but her substitute greeted us a bit off-handily (we were not sure who she was), showed us where our room was, and offered us cookies and two buck Chuck wine, which we were glad to have.
When it was time to go out to dinner we asked for suggestions and the owner's substitute was not much help so we relied on the AAA book.
The owner returned from hiking Mt Rainier that evening and we discovered that had she been there earlier, we would have had the lowdown on all the best places to eat. Too bad! We also would have been told that the faucets in our bathroom were reversed and there really was adequate hot water!
Breakfast was around a big long rectangular table and delicious.
We had expected Astoria to be a pretty seaside town, it is really quite drab with very little to do. Not really worth a layover there, and why the hotels are so expensive I have no idea.
Our stay in this hotel was part of a 53 day US tour that took us over 10,000 miles, 36 different hotels, and a different restaurant every evening. We were on a budget so did not stay in luxury hotels or generally eat in expensive restaurants. This review is relative to what we found on average. We booked all hotels in advance over the internet, when available, and checked them all against reviews on TripAdvisor.com which we found very helpful.
