“Local, seasonal and organic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2009

The Blue Scorcher is as advertised – local, seasonal and organic. A good place for lunch, a snack, or some great looking bread and pastries to go – whether you live here or are just passing through. The café is open and airy with high wood beamed ceilings and colorful brightly painted walls, wooden tables and a slightly hippy vibe. Sunday lunch made it clear that this is a local hangout – Mom’s with young kids, an earnest table of women conversing over coffee, and a young(ish) couple holding hands on a comfortable looking sofa. We are just passing through. My wife had the spring pasta salad which was an interesting combination of snap peas, mixed greens, asparagus, and orecchiette pasta with balsamic dressing, served with some toothsome homemade bread. I had a blackberry oat-nut square and an iced chai with soy milk. Everything we had was fresh and appetizing.

“Eclectic, Delicious, High Quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2009

This place has really high quality baked goods, healthy delicious meals, and relaxed arty atmosphere. They also do really creative themed dinners a few times a year. Those are brilliant. But if you are thinking of going, you should go for this reason--they have this mixer that you must see. It is so big. I believe it is the spawning mixer, the mixer that spawned all other mixers on earth. It's like a battleship in the middle of the bakery. Yeah, they have an industrial mixer. But it's not that one. Look over to the right. That's right, when you first saw that you thought it was a car or something, but noooooo. That's the mixer. It was like the official mixer of world war 2. The owner had to rebuild it and put a tractor motor in it or something. You must go see it. You know how when you see little teeny tiny things they are so cute? Well great big giant things are AWESOME! Oh, they also have a bicycle driven smoothy mixer, that's cool, too.

“Something a little different and special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2009

The Blue Scorcher is an eclectic little bakery and cafe with the most incredible breads and foods. I love their commitment to buying from local growers as much as possible. We are not big bread eaters and love our meat, but we enjoy everything there. You won't find meat on the menu but the breads are great and their fritattas rival my long deceased Aunt Mary's.
Prices may be a little higher than other places but if you want to eat high quality local organic foods then expect to pay a little more and the Blue Scorcher is one of the best places for local foods on the Lower Columbia! The food is worth the drive! For me it is only 45 minutes away! For them though I'd drive farther! The broccoli cheddar soup is amazing! It's not just pureed broccoli in cheese soup, it is chunks of broccoli in a rich cheddar cheese soup. (From the real meat eater, I really enjoyed the French Toast with the apple and blackberry compote, and I'm the guy who has to drown my French Toast with maple syrup.) They also sponsor a bread festival and what a blast that is with games for the kids, food for all, and of course wonderful entertainment, so check out their Lughnasa Festival late July early August.

“Really good food and very fine people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2009

First may I say that I am not vegan. I am happy for those who are. They may be on to something. I see the "scorcher" as an excellent bakery and a fun place to eat. They really do make great bread and many other things that are unique and wholesome. Be sure to try their pizza. Very good. The people serve and bake and prepare food are genuine and commited to quality and your satisfaction.
I have enjoyed several meals and good coffee as well. The menu is always fresh.
It is great to see Astoria coming into it's own. The Blue Scorcher helps every day.
