“Worst Service of My Entire Life--Average Food and Drinks”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2009

My parents came down to visit me, and we planned a trip to the coast while they were in Oregon. We ended up driving through Astoria and decided to get something to eat. Walking around we noticed Clemente's. The interior looked impressive, their menu selection sounded amazing [with seemingly reasonable prices], and they had a live band playing. We walked in and were seated at a table. I have to start this by noting the restaurant did not have many people in it. There were maybe 6-7 tables besides ours that were taken, and the bar area was completely empty. We sat waiting for someone to bring us water and ask us what we'd like to drink [not that they gave us a drink menu] for about 15 minutes. Finally a waiter came by and asked if we had been helped. We told him no, to which he replied, "oh...", and disappeared. He reappeared about 5 minutes later to take our drinks, at which point we had to inform him that we hadn't even been given menus. He brought them, took our orders, and then walked away. Thirty minutes passed and we were never brought our drinks. We had our water glasses filled ONCE the entire time we were there, and never again. He brought out our appetizer: fried squash, which was average. He just sat it on the table without a word and walked off. After that he didn't return for over 45 minutes. Never brought us our drinks, never explained the delays. Finally he brings out our main courses. At this point my Mother inquires about the drinks [a bottle of wine] we ordered over an hour ago. He says he can't find it, and then walks away. He returns a few minutes later to ask what wine we ordered, we tell him, to which he replies with another "oh.." and walks off again. He returns with the bottle after we are half way through with our meals. Again, no apologies, no explanation, no offers to refill our water glasses... he just says nothing and walks away. Main courses: I ordered the "Summer Harvest" and my parents both ordered Fish and Chips. The "Summer Harvest" was just quinoa with steamed carrots and broccoli [literally] which for some reason cost $16. The Fish and Chips were average, the same you get at a TGI Fridays or other national chain. The grand total for all of this was $85 [not including the tip], and a wasted two hours out of our day. My advice: avoid this place like the plague. Just across the street are a couple of other restaurants, go to one of those.

“Great Cioppino”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2009

For a small town like Astoria, Celemente's has big city talents and flavors. We could ear the chefs speaking in Italian as we waited for our food....the food writer Calvin Trillin once wrote that Italians make the best dungeness crab....his rule proved to be correct. We started with the Cioppino which was abundant with seafood and balanced by the fresh tomatoes--a perfect dish for a cold Pacific Northwest day. We then moved on to their famous crab cakes and the steamed clams. The cakes had more crab than breading and the clams were soaking in a fresh and well seasoned broth. Clemente's is a must go-to spot, if you happen to drive through Astoria.

“Wonderful food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2009

This was our third time eating at Clemente's and the food is always consistently delicious and fresh. We had the bacon wrapped scallops and oysters on the halfshell and they were deliious. Wonderful art fills the open dining room and the service is attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you love fresh seafood.

“Kind of a let down....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2009

Had an average meal at Clemente's upon a local's recommendation. The ravoli with crab was nice, however, my husband's lamb meal was below average. It was served over pasta with a tasteless sauce. The service was slow and nonattentive. Average cocktails. Would eat elsewhere.....

There was nothing special about the food. I would skip this restaurant next time.
