Really close to five stars. Two things (read on) kept it from getting there.
Our view (from a pet-friendly King room) was stunning. We spent a lot of the three days just taking it in. Otters cavorting. Sea lions swimming by. Countless varieties of birds. And the ships... If you are a fan like me, the ship channel is close in so you get to see these behemoths of maritime commerce up close. The bed was comfy. Nice living area with couch and coffee table. Enjoyed the gas fireplace. Huge claw foot tub.
Wide variety of food for the free breakfast. The complimentary evening wine came with delicious lox and cheese and crackers. We went out for lunch each day, but stayed in for breakfast and "dinner" - quite a savings if you think about it. Staff was attentive and extremely pleasant.
We were really looking forward to the 24 hour spa facilities, but here was our first disappointment. The Jacuzzi was nice, though it could have been hotter. The Finnish sauna was a big disappointment. No where near hot enough, and there is a vent that can't be closed that blows cold air. Pretty bad to have to huddle around the heater to stay warm in a sauna! We asked the attendant who reassured us that it was at its highest setting.
The other (slight) disappointment was the quality of the furniture. The cabinetry for the TV, the closet and dresser, the wet bar housing the refrigerator, microwave, etc., were all something like worn out Ikea stuff. All functional, but at a place like CPH I would expect better.
Don't get me wrong - we plan to return to CPH. Overall we loved our stay. While not cheap, the winter rates are attractive.
