“Good location, good beds, awful guests”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012 via mobile

Showed up with my bicycle. They gladly gave me a room at a decent price. Room was good(comfy bed, tv, refrigerator). The problems arose as the sun went down. Quiet hours were not enforced and many guests were drunk and hollering in the halls well into the night. The kitchen also had few or any cookware.

“Excellent for Cyclists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

We are long-distance cycle tourists and this hotel (now called Norblad) is great for backpackers and cyclists. There is a kitchen, a locked room in which you can store your bikes, a laundry on site, good clean shower, a fairly spacious bedroom and the price is good.

Don't be put off by the fact that you have to carry your bike up just 1 flight of stairs; the locked upboard is right there on the landing, and I don't think you could do better than this hotel when travelling on a budget.

“Never let me in!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2009

I was traveling from Seattle to Astoria and called on my way to assure that there was a room. They said not to worry and that they were open until 10:00pm. So when I showed up at 8:30 I was surprised to find the front door locked. I called the number on the door for about the next half hour and no one answered. At this point I started to worry that I would have to sleep on the streets for the night. Eventually a older lady came to the door and very rudely asked "what do you want?" I replied "a room for the night, I called earlier today and you said you had many available." she replied that I could not have one since the manager had gone. I told her I had no where else to stay and she shrugged her shoulders and sulked back inside. I guess she expected me to just sleep on the streets of this little town. I ended up staying at a hotel down the road for more money then I could afford, and thus had to cut my trip short. I found out the next day that the owners of the Norblad also own the hotel I was forced to stay in. running a little scheme perhaps??

This experience was the low point of my trip and I would probably never go back to Astoria if the beer at the Fort George Brewery and Public house wasn't so darn tasty

“Also Called the Norblad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2009

When we got to the address of the Astoria Hideaway Hotel we found a hotel named The Norblad. They had our reservations, so perhaps there has been a name change along the way(?). This place definitely has a hostel feel to it. It's a place you can find a tattooed and pierced young man talking to guy visiting from Europe. Many rooms you have to share a bedroom and a bathroom, but there are four rooms that have a private bath and two that share a bath. We stayed in the York room, which had a private bath, refrigerator, sofa, air purifier, and TV. I didn't see any AC, but when we were there, opening a window was all we needed. There were no screens, but the blinds kept out any bugs.

The hotel had a community feel to it and we found it was quieter than expected, the sheets and towels were clean, and the bed was soft.

“Great Location, Simple Accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2009

This is a good place for young people on a budget or passer-bys. The city is a charming one and this hostel is right in the heart of it. Got a bit of a weird vibe from the people there, but got a private room and it was clean and has a view of the river. I wouldn't want to take my family there or stay for an extended period of time, but its cheap and clean and in a good location. They have dorm rooms, and private rooms. The private room was simple it had a fridge and a sink, but the bathrooms were shared.
